A player who is easily in contention for the top DB in this class, Trey is off to a great start this season recording 4 INTs already, returning one for a TD. He has elite level ball skills. Great a tracking and reading the play/routes, Trey is explosive in his attacking the ball in the air. Showing strong natural hands as well, if he is in the area to make the pick he is coming down with it. Trey shows super twitchy hips, quick to turn and run, able to cover lots of ground with his speed and burst. Versatile as well, he is able to play boundary CB, Nickel, or FS. He can man up in lockdown coverage, staying in the WRs pocket to break up the pass. While also displaying the ability to play off in zone, diagnose what’s in-front of him and break on it to make the play.

Trey holds a handful of P4 offers already, and should be a prospect every college is trying to see this spring/summer. He may be the #3 rated DB in this class, but could be the #1 Nickel and elite upside.

In 2025 DB was selected to the UA Next 2025 All-American Game, representing Team Unstoppable. Wells played for the Maryland Heat in 2024, along with with teammates Kamari Jefferson and .

Sometimes players are referred to as a “tweener”, which is short for in betweener. While that can sometimes be used negatively, in this case that could not be further from the truth. Wells’ skill set screams cover corner, showcasing great speed and ability to break on the ball, but his size makes him also tempting to put on the boundary, and finally his tackling ability also profiles him as a pretty good safety.

When looking at comparable players for Wells, former Alabama athlete and current Detroit Lion, Brian Branch makes a lot of sense. While in Tuscaloosa, Branch lined up at all three of the positions I previously mentioned, and that nomad playing style worked perfectly for him. I think that type of jack of all trades approach is what fits Wells best, but he has the ability to play all three to an elite level. Also, don’t sleep on his ability as a WR on the offensive side of the ball.
