Despite the nasty weather, players were able to get acclimated for three practices on April 28th and 29th before going to war yesterday at Caravel Academy. There were a few prospects who passed the eye test, and by the third practice I felt good about who I anticipated on having a strong showing come game time.
Carlos Spencer | QB | Black Team – Long athlete who throws a beautiful ball and can stretch the field if allowed to plant his feet. When in traffic has the vision and height to deliver firm catchable balls. Really impressed during 7on7 period versus the 8th graders. Poised and displayed leadership skills. (Picture left)
Hakim Theresa Jr. Hakim Theresa Jr. 5'7" | 140 lbs | RB NJ | RB | Black Team – Quiet disposition with a smaller frame that does not match his running style. Hakim is patient and accelerates through the hole with a purpose. Good balance and finds a way to get North and South. Feet never stops and not easy to bring down.
Nate Walsh Nate Walsh 5'6" | 160 lbs | LB PA | OLB/RB | Blue Team – Nate is fearless. Can tell he puts in the work when he walks away because he’s built like a little tank. High football IQ with a chip on his shoulder. As he develops over the years I see him being a Nickel back or doing some special things in the slot.
Rashad Jones Rashad Jones DL MD | DT | Black Team – Lower body is developing faster than the top and he knows how to use them tree trunks. Jones is a powerful presence on the defensive line and the 8th graders had trouble moving him during inside run. Seemed to always be in the backfield. Once he fills out completely, he will give a lot of offenses a headache.
Daniel Williams | OL/DL | Blue Team – The kid they call Bear was Biggest kid on the field. With that comes assumptions. Bear has it all covered. Big, strong, and easily takes up space. So he really shouldn’t get brownie points for bullying a smaller framed player. However, during 9on7 he really impressed me seeing him move and use his feet to get in great position whether blocking or controlling his gap on defense. (Picture right)
Tristen Wells Tristen Wells DB MD | ATH | Black Team – Seems to always be around the ball. A pure athlete that can play on the perimeter on defense or let him sit in the middle of the field and watch him react. The offensive side of the ball is where I think he’ll develop faster because he has a fluidity to his footwork that comes easy.
Mekhi Parker Mekhi Parker 6'2" | WR Glassboro | 2028 NJ | WR/S | Blue Team – Caught my eye immediately seeing him high point balls. Long arms and height made me think he was a year older. Mekhi covers ground so fast with his long legs too and he has body control. Smaller DB’s really struggle trying to stay on top of him.
Dwayle Smith Dwayle Smith WR MD | ATH | Black Team – Nice ball skills and didn’t let the ball get too close to his body on routes. Can play inside or outside as a receiver. Used his size to advantage off the line and got in/out of breaks. Looked comfortable catching slants and attacked the deep routes. (Picture left)
Tysir Young | WR/DE | Blue Team – Mr. Young looks and plays the part. Thicker frame accompanied by height is a great thing. I was impressed on how he carried himself and looked locked in when being coached. Did the little things when away from the ball and always looked to make something happen after the catch. Will also stand up on the edge and cause problems.
Drake James | OL | Black Team – Hard nosed kid who I felt pulled well into space going against mostly stand up athletes. Once made contact he rarely fell off block until ball carrier got pass. Average pass protection, but had decent feet.
