Jermaine Smith Jr.
About Jermaine
Expert Analysis

I think Smith is the most intriguing player on this list. He has a ton of potential. 15-plus colleges, including Maryland, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M, believe he has a high ceiling as a prospect. Put me in the line with the believers. He is hell coming off of that edge. Smith is only going to get better.

Jermaine mainly played WR for SFA last season, however I have him as the #1 overall athlete as with his size and frame he could end up playing multiple positions in the future. Standing 6’4″ and over 200lbs with a long lean frame that could bulk up to 220+ before we know it. He has size/frame you can’t teach and that is why he currently has 9 D1 offers with 6 of them being from Power 4 schools.
At WR, Jermaine has explosive get off from the LOS and is a strong vertical threat. He can stem his routes, put his foot in the ground to get DBs off balance and go up and get the ball at the highest point. He has excellent length and knows how to use it to his advantage. Jermaine posses a long fluid stride that allows him to eat up grass as he runs. He has such huge upside as a prospect. I could see being a big X WR going forward or developing into a TE/OLB/DE. Jermaine will be a completely different player in 2 years in a good way, his potential could certainly lead him to move up these rankings in the future and more colleges will come calling for sure.

Smith Jr. is a Pennsylvania native, but played for the South Carolina Future Stars during the event. After earning top performer honors at our PRZ Next camp in New Jersey this winter, Smith Jr. has exploded onto the recruiting scene. He has been invited for camps and visits to Pitt, Penn State, Maryland, Syracuse and others this spring/summer. Every bit of 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, he was easily the biggest receiver on the field. Don’t be surprised if this “ATH” ends up as a defensive end before it’s all said and done.

-The kid right here is different. Jermaine Smith Jr. out of Pennsylvania, was every bit of the 6-foot-4 and 195-pounds he was verified at during check-in. As soon as he walked through the doors at camp, he had every coach turning their head
-Was clocked at 4.88 in the forty a 7.66 in the L-Drill, showing that he moved excellent despite his size, body structure and only being in eighth-grade
-I don’t know what position Smith Jr. will be playing going forward because he’s an athletic freak. Could see him staying at Wide Receiver if he continues to get that speed down even more. Thinking a big-bodied athlete that could be a nightmare in the red zone. Then again, if he’s this big and athletic already, could be a nightmare to scheme against as a Tight End. I also can’t rule out moving him to an Edge/Defensive End. Imagine an eighth-grade Offensive Tackle having to handle him without help

Already standing 6-foot-4 and 191-pounds (unverified) Smith Jr. is a huge, young body that checks a lot of boxes in terms of size and potential. While he absolutely could outgrow the position, he’s an athletic football/basketball kid that could become elite.

At 6-foot-3 and 184 pounds and just being 12-years-old, Smith is 2027 prospect that coaches need to know about early. Watching his film, he’s that big-bodied wideout that gives his Quarterback a chance for a completion if they throw it anywhere near him. Possesses an advanced knowledge of how to use his body to muscle his way into making a play on the ball. Much like a “big” in basketball gets in position to grab a rebound, Smith does that on any football thrown in his direction. Obviously being this young and this big, he’s still learning how to move functionally in his big frame. It’s not out of the real of possibility to see him bump inside to become a freak of a Tight End. Look for him to be playing Freshman football (despite only going into eighth-grade) at Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pa.
