Expert Analysis

Edwards is a hitting machine out on the football field. I counted at least four tackles, two tackles for a loss, one pass breakup, and multiple pressures for him against Chamindate. He played downhill all game. A couple of his more impressive plays included him shooting the gap to blow up the running back for a 2-yard loss and another one where he tackled a player who caught a pass for a four-yard loss. He showed versatility as a run-stopper and in coverage.

High praise for a player who missed Day One of our tournament. You have to be lights out to be named this high on the list after not appearing for half of the event. We are talking about St. Frances’s

, though, so who can be surprised?
A man among literal boys, Edwards was stifling in all areas he occupied. Next-level quickness, a build every Power Four program in the country covets, seeing Edwards in person reminded myself, as well as scouts in attendance, what “elite” looks like, if not for a brief time. Here’s what my colleague Todd Haldis had to say in a recent piece.
Jireh was out there looking every bit the part on the field for Team Octane. He played multiple spots on D and was affecting the play no matter where he lined up. Using his size & length to disrupt and break up passes. Saw him make a great break on the ball in one game, diving for the INT help his team get up big. An imposing player, he was key to Octane’s defensive success all tournament. No surprise that he is a top talent in the MD 2026 class.

Jireh is as physical as they come at the safety spot and is another top national recruit in these rankings. With elite size and build for hs position and a self reported 4.48 laser 40 it’s no wonder why Jireh comes in at the #3 overall and #1 DB spot.
Mainly playing at SS in the box or in the slot in press man coverage, Edwards is quick to diagnose plays and fast to the ball. He uses his excellent length to get his hands on lots of passes for PBUs and and getting off blocks. What stands out most about Jireh’s game though is his tackling. He is a missile out there on the field and hits like a ton of bricks. Comes downhill or can get sideline to sideline, he is quick to find the ball and attack.
His skill set and athleticism is a perfect fit for today’s game as he can play the hybrid SS/ off ball LB and be a a versatile overall defender. I am a big fan of Jireh’s game, I expect him to be a dominate force in his senior year and an impact player at the next level.
