For the purpose of this article, we’ll look at Rawlings as a quarterback. He’s a playmaking, rhythm-based quarterback, based on the highlights that I watched. Rawlings is definitely an athlete playing quarterback, but he does display nice touch and ball placement in his highlights. In particular, he shows those abilities on vertical and corner routes. There are multiple reps showing him dropping throws “in the bucket”, whether it’s fades, goal-line shorts, or corner routes. Rawlings is good at leading receivers in space, and he puts just enough arc on the football to clear defenders. Based on the highlights I watched, he makes a lot of first-read throws. If he’s to stay at quarterback, I would like to see more plays of him making full-field progression reads. Rawlings is decisive and doesn’t hesitate to get the ball out. He is very mobile as well, shows good speed, and has a nice stride. If he decides not to play quarterback, I can see him making a smooth transition into the wide receiver position.
