Each week I will pick and break down seven of the top games in Southern California.

I had another strong week last week going 6-1 for the second consecutive week.

Here is a look at some of the best games this week:

CORONA DEL MAR VS. VILLA PARK

Both teams are undefeated heading into the Bravo League play, which is the most evenly-matched league in the Section. Corona del Mar is coming off a bye after an impressive win over La Serna. [player_tooltip player_id='2254928' first='JD' last='Annett'] threw for 340 yards in that game and [player_tooltip player_id='1734922' first='Nolan' last='Scott'] had 129 yards receiving with a score. [player_tooltip player_id='1797946' first='Tucker' last='Murray'] had a touchdown catch as well and had an interception against Villa Park last season. Villa Park has played a softer schedule but has been dominant like it should be. [player_tooltip player_id='2339027' first='Jacob' last='Titchenal'] completes 80 percent of his passes for 167 yards per game with 15 touchdowns and no interceptions. Coy Collins runs for 91 yards per game with six touchdowns. Villa Park has one of the best public school linebacker trios in Orange County with Maverick Declark, [player_tooltip player_id='2256986' first='Parker' last='Johns'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2263589' first='Ethan' last='Hedrick']. The strength of schedule is a reason for my pick here.

LA SERNA VS. WARREN

La Serna is coming off its lone loss of the season to an excellent Corona del Mar team but had one of its best passing games of the season. [player_tooltip player_id='2106849' first='Grady' last='Long'] threw for 347 yards on just 12 completions with two touchdowns. [player_tooltip player_id='1956945' first='Landon' last='Armenta'] had 222 yards receiving and Daniel Moreno had a big game too. Jordan Bonilla and [player_tooltip player_id='2074124' first='Xavier' last='Nunez'] lead La Serna's defense but the defense has just one interception this season. Warren also has a great passing offense led by Jordan Malikin who throws for 307 yards per game with 24 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Julian Padin has 558 yards receiving with seven touchdowns. I think La Serna has a better defense here.

CREAN LUTHERAN VS. TUSTIN

Crean Lutheran snapped a two-game losing streak in its last game with a 38-21 win over Oakdale. [player_tooltip player_id='1197336' first='Caden' last='Jones'] threw for 276 yards with three touchdowns and ran for 126 yards with a score. [player_tooltip player_id='1382581' first='Braylen' last='Ross'] has been the leading receiver for the Saints this season and [player_tooltip player_id='1197333' first='Damari' last='Hall'] had a big game too. Crean Lutheran's defense is loaded with talent with [player_tooltip player_id='1611238' first='Evan' last='Mack'] in the secondary, [player_tooltip player_id='1199093' first='Ahmeer' last='Williamson'] at linebacker and [player_tooltip player_id='2098782' first='Nasir' last='Walker'] off the edge. Tustin recently got quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1455302' first='Ayden' last='Edwards'] back from injury which puts [player_tooltip player_id='1622362' first='Hayden' last='Koo'] back at receiver where he is one of the best in the state. BYU commit [player_tooltip player_id='668740' first='Jeremiah' last='Williams'] has seven sacks and has rushed for multiple touchdowns.

MISSION HILLS VS. LA COSTA CANYON

These are two of the top four teams in San Diego and could be a preview of an Open Division playoff game. [player_tooltip player_id='1197560' first='Furian' last='Inferrera'] is throwing for 249 yards per game for Mission Hills. His top receivers are Ryan MacKenzie and two-way star [player_tooltip player_id='1717679' first='Brayden' last='Roberson']. Luke Labrum and Jackson Miller split time at quarterback for La Costa Canyon and Labrum is one of the higher-upside quarterbacks in San Diego. Mission Hills won this game last season 35-34.

NOTRE DAME VS. CHAMINADE

The Mission League is one of the most competitive leagues in the Section and these two teams are undefeated heading into league play. Chaminade has found a groove offensively with [player_tooltip player_id='1506294' first='Jeremy' last='Mellalieu'] throwing for 212 yards per game with 12 touchdowns. The defense is led by [player_tooltip player_id='1611410' first='Hudson' last='Manning'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1611212' first='Kingston' last='Williams'] who have 23 tackles for a loss. [player_tooltip player_id='1611347' first='Bryan' last='Narcisse'] is another defensive player to watch. Notre Dame has played a slightly easier schedule than Chaminade and is led by quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='2106863' first='Tahj' last='Skinner'] and running back [player_tooltip player_id='2124170' first='Noel' last='Washington']. Skinner also plays defense and has two interceptions.

SERVITE VS. ORANGE LUTHERAN

Both of these teams are 3-2 heading into Trinity League play. [player_tooltip player_id='1146376' first='King' last='Rich Johnson'] leads Orange Lutheran's excellent secondary along with [player_tooltip player_id='1621200' first='Anhor' last='Johnson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1717694' first='Chauncey' last='Washington']. The Lancers have a transfer eligible this week at linebacker in Jamaal Fry who had a ton of tackles for Leuzinger. [player_tooltip player_id='1506318' first='Ezrah' last='Brown'] has been playing more at quarterback lately and [player_tooltip player_id='1588182' first='Ryan' last='Christianson'] is running for 112 yards per game. Servite has been running the ball well lately with [player_tooltip player_id='1742104' first='Jorden' last='Wells']. [player_tooltip player_id='2100470' first='Allen' last='Kennett V'] leads the defense in tackles and [player_tooltip player_id='1197211' first='Isaiah' last='Leilua'] is an All-League player along with [player_tooltip player_id='1621233' first='Kaleb' last='Aiava']. [player_tooltip player_id='1695404' first='Kamil' last='Pelovello'] has adjusted nicely to primarily playing corner this season.

MATER DEI VS. SANTA MARGARITA

Santa Margarita's defense is among the best in the state despite losing nine starters from last season. The Eagles have two consecutive shutouts and have allowed just seven points in their last three games. Freshman Aydan Steen will be the top linebacker in the state this time next year. [player_tooltip player_id='2106811' first='Kingston' last='Jimmerson'], [player_tooltip player_id='283616' first='Isaia' last='Vandermade'] and Kaleb Herndon rush the passer well. [player_tooltip player_id='1475821' first='Adrian' last='Petero'] is running the ball well behind a strong offensive line. Mater Dei's defense is right up there with Santa Margarita's. [player_tooltip player_id='1197325' first='Dailon' last='Clanton Jr.'], [player_tooltip player_id='1197270' first='Mike' last='Davis'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1197606' first='Ezekiel' last='Su'a'] are an excellent linebacker trio and [player_tooltip player_id='1197614' first='Montana' last='Toilolo'] is a top interior defensive lineman. [player_tooltip player_id='490799' first='Danny' last='Lang'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1515889' first='Isaiah' last='Danns'] can make it challenging for Santa Margarita's receivers to get open. Mater Dei's offense has struggled, but [player_tooltip player_id='1408794' first='Asir' last='Nembhard'] is a good playmaker out of the backfield. This will be a low-scoring game and I think Santa Margarita can make things difficult for Mater Dei's trio of quarterbacks.
