Expert Analysis
Michael Huntley | Prep Redzone Scout
Wells ran for 405 yards on 70 carried with four touchdowns as a sophomore last season.
He is an elite track guy but is more than just a running back with straightaway speed. Wells makes quick jump cuts and has good start/stop ability at the first two levels and his quick burst makes every play a scoring threat.

Compact, explosive speed back with legit home-run ability every carry — 5’8”, 145 lbs frame that’s still growing but already plays bigger than his size because of the burst. Freshman/sophomore year shows vision to hit the crease, then it’s gone — track-verified 10.4 100m and state-record relay legs show up in his second-gear acceleration and ability to stack moves in the open field. Already has 400+ rushing yards and multiple TDs on varsity with a 5.8 YPC clip; he finishes runs and is a willing blocker. Not a power guy yet, but the elusiveness and top-end speed scream change-of-pace or third-down weapon at the next level. Twin brother Jace gives him that competitive edge in practice. High-motor kid who’ll only get stronger. Grade: Early upside RB/ATH, needs to adds 20-25 lbs.

His speed stands out when he gets into the open field but he is more than just his speed. Wells can reach his top speed quickly and makes quick cuts without sacrificing his speed. His field vision is good and he navigates the first two levels well.
