I know that we're well into June, and with how busy the summer camp & official visit season can get, a lot has happened since the new month has rolled around. However, we're going to take a quick break to recap the month of May and all of the Minnesota-related recruiting news that came during. Yes, some of these recruitments have ramped up and things have changed in a hurry, but important offers, commitments, data points, recruiting strategies, and trends came out of May, and as the most comprehensive source for Minnesota high school football and its recruiting news, it wouldn't be right to no recap the month. Without further ado, Minnesota's May Recruiting Roundup, in a Quick Hitters format.

--

[player_tooltip player_id='212362' first='Roman' last='Voss'] Begins to Set Himself Apart in the 2026 Class

Jackson County Central's superstar 2026 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='212362' first='Roman' last='Voss'] is finally a P4 offeree, and it's about time. A well-known name in the Land of 10,000 Lakes since his freshman year at JCC, Voss became only the second instate 2026 to earn a Minnesota Gophers offer when Head Coach PJ Fleck called on May 6th. His first overall offer, border rival Wisconsin joined the Gophers and offered on the 21st. Voss is simply too big, too dynamic, and too athletic to not have Midwest P4 offers at this point, and on top of it he has D1 bloodlines from his brother, ample varsity experience, a basketball background, and reports some interesting testing numbers as well. Additionally, he comes out of a high school athletic program that breeds tough kids. Voss is another example of that tradition, putting his body on the line for his program all last season, and has seen the combination of traits and on-field success finally come to fruition this past month. A QB, WR, and safety in high school, athletes with a similar resume have historically done very well moving to defense, particularly linebacker, where Voss is projecting to at the next level. He just camped in Manhattan and earned a Big12 offer from Kansas State, so get ready to hear more about the JCC Huskie in the June recruiting recap.

https://twitter.com/romanvoss2/status/1787620930727878902

[player_tooltip player_id='362273' first='Emmanuel' last='Karmo'] commits to Minnesota

Massive news out of the 2025 class, as the Gophers locked down another P4 prospect out of Robbinsdale Cooper and undoubtedly one of the Top 2 prospects in the state. Karmo, a stud and varsity starter since his freshman year with the Hawks, was steadily gaining steam as a prospect since the summer after his freshman year, putting the state on notice as the rising sophomore earned offers from Southern Illinois and East Carolina during the summer camp circuit. His first P4 (then P5) offer came in December after his sophomore season concluded - from Iowa State, of course - and the P4 offers were rolling in slowly until his junior year film began to really circulate. Once December rolled around, Karmo saw one of the biggest recruiting rises in the Midwest, earning offers from Kansas State, Iowa, USC, Ohio State, San Diego State, Nebraska, Minnesota, Kansas, Penn State, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Mizzou, all in the span of two months. Karmo announced he had cut things down to a Top 7, but excitedly, four days later, he shut down his recruitment and committed to Minnesota, turning down OV opportunities to some of the bigger brand names in CFB. It's an exciting commitment for many reasons. From an instate perspective, it's important to maintain and trust in prospects out of Cooper. It's one of the more high-end and consistent recruiting hotbeds in the state, and Head Coach Willie Howard does a great job of preparing young men for the next level, regardless of projection. Additionally, the Gophs beat out some major heavy-hitting competition, particularly in the B1G, and are getting one of the more dynamic LB prospects I've seen in my time covering the state of MN. Karmo is a twitched up, dynamic, multi-phase contributor who has done a great job of adding a legit route running and WR skillset to his game. Able to play in space, rush the passer, or drop into coverage, not to mention hurt you on offense, the size/speed/athletic combination at 6'3, 225 screams B1G football, and I'm incredibly excited to see Karmo in Maroon & Gold.

https://twitter.com/EmmanuelKarmo28/status/1793691923817124100

[player_tooltip player_id='234761' first='Luke' last='Emmerich'] commits to Wisconsin

We covered Monticello's Emmerich, his recruiting journey, and rise to P4 stardom as the darling of the spring recruiting window extensively in the April Recruiting Roundup, and we saw the conclusion to the exciting recruitment come early last month. A kid we've had a P4 grade since he was a young buck, Emmerich missed his junior season due to injury but proved he back to 100% after popping off an explosive 10.69 100M on April 23rd. The Badgers beat out the likes of Minnesota, Kansas State, USC, Nebraska, Utah, Cal-Berkeley, Boston College, Michigan State, Washington State, Washington, and Iowa State. With all the important junior film missing from his athletic profile, I had no idea what to do about Emmerich in the spring rankings update, but he has firmly reasserted himself at the upper echelons of the state's recruiting class since the update. Long, rangy, dynamic, explosive, two-way contributor with instincts, I remember raving about his coverage ability in his sophomore tape, which is really going to serve him nicely as a safety at the next level. Been a while since we've seen this kid play football, he's poised for a monster season in 2024. Going to be a fun Minnesota-born name to follow into the college ranks with a lot of upside and potential to capture some visibility. Badgers got a good one.

[player_tooltip player_id='1120583' first='Trey' last='Boyd'] commits to Northwestern

The size and junior film got Shakopee's 2025 OT [player_tooltip player_id='1120583' first='Trey' last='Boyd'] onto the P4 recruiting scene, and he never looked back. The brother of 6'4, 220 lb. University of St. Thomas rising junior WR Bryce Boyd, younger brother Trey sports a similarly exciting frame for the next level and was a complete and utter bruiser in his junior tape with the Sabers. Boyd also came into the PRzMN Showcase and made some noise, and went onto add around 30 pounds since the winter, sitting around 270 pounds at the time of his eventual commitment. The Gophs found him first, getting him on visit for an unofficial gameday experience during the fall, and Iowa State became overall and P4 offer #1 on November 5th. Cincinnati, Kansas, KState, Purdue, Miami (OH), Northwestern, Minnesota, Arizona, Indiana, and BYU all followed, and Boyd had reported Official Visits planned to Purdue, Kansas, Arizona, and Northwestern. However, he didn't make it all four, and never made it out of Evanston, committing to the prestigious Northwestern University on May 13th. It was hard getting a pulse on his recruitment all the way through, and we were very locked in to seeing how and when Boyd's recruiting dominos would fall. Can never fault a kid for going high academic, and the Wildcats are getting a mauler at the point of attack with run blocking prowess, a fluid and comfortable ability to work to the second level, pull, and block in space/on the move, and a frame and skillset with development upside, especially given the Sabers run-heavy rushing scheme. We got another Metro kid to root for at Northwestern!

https://twitter.com/TBoyd2025/status/1790007821574013202

[player_tooltip player_id='586119' first='Dylan' last='Vokal'] commits to NDSU

A 2025er we've been standing on the table for, Maple Grove's [player_tooltip player_id='586119' first='Dylan' last='Vokal'] is a massively important piece in the Crimson's outstanding and star-studded 2025 crop of talent that has passed each and every test we've seen put in front of him. The kid has been nothing short of a stud since his sophomore year starting for the Crimson, and has verified athletic numbers, three-phase contributing ability, a multi-sport background, and the size/eye test at 6'2, 195 lbs., and is one of the more versatile prospects in the state. An explosive returner and ballhawking safety who projects to the defensive backfield in college, I watched Vokal step into the RB role in the big-time regular season finale against Minnetonka after soon-to-be-mentioned [player_tooltip player_id='1192021' first='Charles' last='Langama'] went down with an injury during warmups, and he looked comfortable and was effective against a talented 6A defense like had been starting there all season long. It was yet another example of Vokal's dynamic ability, versatility, and natural football talent and aptitude. The hard paid off in late January, after the Ohio Bobcats became Vokal's first offer, and an FBS one at that. Army, NDSU, Air Force, Cornell, South Dakota, UNI, Columbia, and Harvard followed. In mid-May, Vokal shut things down and committed to the North Dakota State Bison, I couldn't be more excited about the fit. The Minnesota to Fargo pipeline and tradition of development makes me bullish on Vokal's future with the Bison, and I can't wait to see what this kid looks like after a few years in the Bison's strength & conditioning program. We'll be seeing him tear up Missouri Valley gridirons in no time.

https://twitter.com/DylanVokal/status/1791291073521733669

[player_tooltip player_id='1204067' first='Daniel' last='Jackson'] (Alexandria) commits to Minnesota on a PWO

I broke down Jackson's historic and still-ongoing career in Alexandria, as well as his long-running recruitment that started with a Gophers PWO going into his sophomore year, in the April Recruiting Roundup, but we have more news from MN's Specialist1. Jackson was one of the momentum-building early commits of the Gophers 2025 class and shut things down on May 10th, committing to PJ Fleck and the homestate Golden Gophers. Not only does Jackson possess one of the biggest boots the Land of 10,000 Lakes has ever seen, he's also a fantastic athlete, clocking a 10.86 100M time this spring while also adding 11.07 and 11.19 times throughout his outdoor career. Also cleans 270 pounds, benches 240, and squats 315 pounds, and held additional offers from Cornell, Army, and North Dakota State. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks offered and received a commitment from the 2025 classes RB2 in [player_tooltip player_id='1192021' first='Charles' last='Langama'], and I couldn't be more thrilled about the fit. Langama will more than likely take over the RB1 spot in the coming summer micro-update, and for good reason too, as his naturally low pad level, outstanding patience, vision, and instincts, playmaking ability, contact balance, and combo of speed/quickness broke down 6A Metro defenses all 2023 and helped him put together one of the best rushing seasons of any RB in the state. North Dakota has historically done well with RBs of this size/ability, and with the Missouri Valley Football Conference built on the legs of RBs and shoulders of offensive linemen, not to mention the schematic fit with the Maple Grove RB in the Fighting Hawks offense, I could see Langama thriving in Grand Forks.

https://twitter.com/Charles2Langama/status/1789482569001553962

[player_tooltip player_id='1120518' first='Bo' last='Draheim'] Commits to Cornell

A darkhorse in the 2025 class of MN prospects, Maple Grove's 2025 TE/LB [player_tooltip player_id='1120518' first='Bo' last='Draheim'] was spotted, evaled, and offered by Ivy League competitor Cornell back in late March. Draheim, whose coaches have raved about his toughness and versatility as a run blocker, went on a tear of Ivy League visits in April to Harvard, Dartmouth, and Cornell, and on May 5th he locked things down and committed to the admissions process for the Cornell Big Red. Juice as a pass catcher, two-way contributor and playmaker, and dynamic on the gridiron, Draheim is a natural football player with good size and a lot of good football in front of him.
