Wangen has been nothing if not dominant throughout his senior season, and his Week 3 performances only exemplified that. He recorded three total touchdowns, two receptions from a little more than 20 yards out, and one rushing TD from just outside the 10. His impact wasn’t just limited to offense, however, because Wangen also showed out on special teams. He recorded a 2-point conversion run and went 2/2 on PATs.

emerged as the go-to target for QB Ayden Helder en route to the Tigers winning their first high school football state championship in school history. Wangen’s growth over the course of the year ended up getting him signed to Minnesota State-Mankato at the end of July. Wangen possesses all the traits of a top WR: size, frame, physicality, smooth route-running, and a great win-rate on 50-50 balls. There is no doubt that Wangen will have a great future for the Mavericks, but for now, his task will be keeping the path straight for the Tigers’ offense as they transition under a new QB.
Wangen plays receiver and safety for the Tigers. The senior-to-be’s strengths on one side of the ball so easily translate over to the other side of the ball. His backpedal and his ability to break on the ball are about as smooth as you are going to see at this level. That skill set perfectly translates to his ability to explode out of his cuts and keep his feet in bounds on offense. That explosion out of his cuts allows him to use his speed to create separation on offense and – in turn – eat up separation on defense. He has solid ball skills that – I don’t have to explain – are essential on offense and a great bonus on defense.
Ranked 56th by prephoops.comrnLike most guys on this list, Wangen has excellent length. He is a tough cover one-on-one simply because of his size. He runs excellent routes and comes out of his breaks cleanly. As a deep safety, he had good range and is a physical player who will make it uncomfortable for any receiver coming over the middle. Wangen can hurt defenses in multiple ways. He is an end-around threat. He will bounce off or run through tackles when running with the ball. The junior has a solid arm – completing passes on receiver option passes. On the hardwood, Wangen averages eight points a game for the 14-3 Tigers.
Wangen caught two touchdowns – the second catch highlighted his speed covering fifty yards down the sidelines. Earlier in the game, the junior caught a pass across the middle and bounced off a tackler to pick up another five yards. Late, he picked up a first down, showing his quickness with an end-a-round for a first down.
