6′, 190 lb. Owatonna DB/WR Luke Webber is having a heckuva spring and is making me look quite foolish by not bumping him up from the Watchlist earlier. The cat’s out of the bag now, as Webber is one of the fastest football players – and track athletes – in Minnesota, certified by his blazing 10.75 100M time last week for the Huskies track team. As it goes in recruiting, it didn’t take long for college suitors to come calling once that 100M time went live, as DII heavyweight Minnesota-Duluth came calling the next day, extending Webber his first offer. Not the first time a high-level athlete has come out of the halls of Owatonna, and I could see Webber building some exciting recruiting momentum the rest of the track season and into the summer. Posting 26 tackles and 8 PBUs last fall, Webber proved himself to be one of the stickiest cover corners in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
You don’t see a lot of CBs showing any reps of them pressing opposing receivers, much less as often as Webber does, and he does it quite well I must add. The junior posted 26 tackles and 8 PBUs in the fall of 2023, and he displays his speed in his first clip from junior year, running down a loose Northfield RB for a TD-saving tackle far downfield. He’s smooth in his backpedal, can bend and unlock his hips smoothly, and does a great job of easily staying in a receivers’ hip pockets. I also am impressed by his ball skills, When pressing, he doesn’t open the gate easily and does a good job of getting his hands on a WR and disrupting his timing. I really like what he brings to the table as a cover CB even without adding in the eye-popping 10.75 100M time. He’s going to see a big debut in the rankings this month for his efforts!

Webber was part of the Huskies’ third-place 4X200 relay team. In the fall, he is part of Owatonna’s secondary. The junior has excellent size for a corner. His quick hips out of his cuts make him solid trail technique, and then he has enough explosion to close that final gap to make up that final step to get his hand in front of the receiver and on the ball. Those good hips also get him quickly out of a backpedal and into a sprint when covering a deep route. His sprinting speed allows him to make plenty of plays on the other side of the field, making sure big plays to the other side of the field don’t turn into touchdowns.
