Pine Island was devastated when their prized standout, Blake Schiltz Blake Schiltz 6'3" | 225 lbs | LB Pine Island | 2025 State MN ended up tearing his ACL last season, but he had proven so well already that he ended up committing to North Dakota State back in June. Schiltz has been used in a variety of roles for the Panthers, but he has been best suited at Middle Linebacker. Schiltz has a great upper frame, quick lateral movement, and is a tough tackler. Schiltz will explode into the backfield, and can just as easily swing around the Tackle to contain the outside-run game. His returning presence in the defense will be warmly received by Pine Island once he takes the field in 2024 for his senior year.

I wasn’t able to find any video for Schiltz’s junior season, but as a sophomore, he played multiple positions well. Offensively, his main spot was fullback, where he stopped defenders in their tracks with his lead blocking. He has excellent ball skills as a wide receiver and can win fifty/fifty balls. He runs sharp routes and comes out of his breaks quickly. Defensively, his fullback skills translate well to middle linebacker. Schiltz is a solid tackler and moves well laterally. When picking his way through traffic looking for the ball carrier or dropping into coverage, the Panthers’ two-way player is smooth in the open field, but his explosive physical play stands out the most.

Ranked 89th by prephoops.comrnSchiltz is a multi-threat offensive player for the Panthers. Offensively, he plays all over the field. The junior lines up wide, in the backfield as a running back, a lead blocking back, and even at quarterback. He has great hands and uses his length to high-point deep balls. For a part-time quarterback, Schiltz is not just a runner. He has a good arm and can push the ball down the field. Defensively, he is a big-hitting downhill linebacker. He moves laterally down the line of scrimmage smoothly and gets off blocks quickly. When moving laterally, he puts his foot in the ground and closes quickly when he sees the hole. He is a big hitter but doesn’t sacrifice good tackling technique for the highlight hit.

Pine Island, a town of around 4,000 residents outside of Zumbrota, has an exciting up-and-coming LB prospect from the 2025 class in 6’3, 210 lber. Blake Schiltz. Also a standout on the hardcourt and in track, Schiltz comes in as the current LB4 and at #18 overall in the recent PRzMN 2025 rankings update. One of my favorite aspects of his sophomore campaign was undoubtedly the number of positions he played in the fall of ’22, including MLB, FB, QB, WR, and TE. His sideline-to-sideline range & output behind an opponent LOS as a LB, as well as overall athleticism and ability to excel in situations involving contact and physicality have PRzMN very excited for his future, which I think projects best for the LB position in college. He was all over the field offensively, defensively, and on special teams, and was productive, disruptive, and high-motored in his sophomore tape and I’m pumped to see how he ups his game this offseason.

I’m stoked to get some more Outstate blood into the top end of the rankings, particularly from Pine Island, whose population of 3,500 should be very excited about the potential future of sophomore LB Blake Schiltz. At 6’3, 210 lbs., Schiltz played all over the field in 2022 and played it all well, which strengthens his game as a LB and really aids in his collegiate projection. A big play machine offensively as a QB, FB, and WR, Schiltz is a load and a half to bring down and proved himself to be a deep threat in the passing game or a destructive blocker and ball carrier when called upon, but his defensive highlights are what really gets me juiced. Sideline-to-sideline range, strength and technique as a tackler, the ability to shed blocks in multiple fashions, vision and patience when reading and diagnosing runs, and a non-stop motor and high-energy play style make him look fun as heck to play with and a nightmare to compete against. The movement skills and range are impressive at his size and age and if he can play in a camp setting like he does on film he’ll be a popular recruit on the trail before he knows it. Keep hitting the weight room hard, Blake. Good things are coming!
