The Magic two-way player is one of the most athletic guys in the Class of 2025. As a quarterback, he literally hurdles defenders. I don’t mean hurdling guys diving at his knees; I am talking about high school kids standing basically straight up. Emmerich is not just a straight-line speed guy – he has quick feet and a knack for finding open space. When he needs to throw, he has a big arm and throws well on the move. His speed complements him as a running quarterback or receiver and gives him outstanding range as a defensive back. When he gets to the receiver, he does not shy away from contact – he creates the contact.

You have to start with the biggest storyline, one that not only had implications and created waves in the MN recruiting scene but also in the regional and national circuit. It’s not breaking news anymore, but Monticello’s 2025 standout Luke Emmerich had one of the better recruiting storylines in recent memory and was arguably the biggest winner of the recent NCAA contact period. Missing the 2023 season due to a preseason injury, there were a lot of unknowns in Emmerich’s stock, recovery, and projection, but he blew things out of the water after exploding into the outdoor season with a blazing 10.69 100M and catapulting himself into the P4 recruiting space. You have to give credit to Illinois State, Air Force, Army, and B1G Washington, who all saw his potential before the 100M performance, and Emmerich’s sophomore tape showed a dynamic, explosive, and good-framed athlete with positional flexibility in his projection and visible athleticism and playmaking ability, but the track speed boosted things to a whole new level. After the time went public, Iowa State offered later that night, and it was followed by Wisconsin, Washington State, Michigan State, Boston College, Cal-Berkeley, Utah, Nebraska, USC, Minnesota, and Kansas State. With the likes of Ohio State, Miami (FL), and Alabama sniffing around, Emmerich shut things only a couple weeks after the offers started rolling in, committing to the new(ish) Wisconsin staff on May 3rd. The Badgers got a good one, and we have track speed and a verified athletic data point to thank for this blowup. What a month it’s been for the Monticello rising senior!

6’2, 190 lb. Monticello athlete Luke Emmerich has had a busy and exciting start to the all-important junior season recruiting trail as he’s visited Kansas State, South Dakota State, Iowa State, and blue-blood Notre Dame, all in September. Yes, he’s still waiting on that first offer, but it’s a big deal that these teams are reaching out with gameday invites and he’s very much on their big boards for the 2025 class. I’m assuming they’re waiting to see how the rest of junior film looks, but Emmerich will surely back it up with his play, as he’s one of the most athletic and dynamic prospects in the state. Keep up the great work, Luke. It’s going to pay off soon.

Monticello sophomore Emmerich presents an interesting package as a prospect, and he continues to get more interesting. At the time of the introductory rankings release last year, Emmerich was a Top-2 ranked quarterback who performed well enough slinging the rock at last summer’s Gopher prospect camp that he caught the eye and impressed 24/7Sports Midwest Director Allen Trieu. Since then, Emmerich has stepped his game up and elevated his overall football skills more than anyone else on the rankings, adding not only size, but a ton of positional versatility, showing off some very impressive reps at WR and DB, as well as an overall ball carrier. At 6’3, 180 lbs., he pulled off a beautiful hurdle on the second play of his highlights, completely clearing the Sauk Rapids-Rice defender and cleanly landing on his feet. The third play of his sophomore tape is also fantastic, where Emmerich, the boundary corner, reads a post route from the opposite X receiver and from the flats covers 25 yards in a beautiful and full-speed line, drops perfectly under the wide open receiver and picks the ball off in a gorgeous display of instincts and speed. Additionally, his elusiveness in the open field is excellent, his top-end speed looks good, and it’s safe to say he’s one of the most athletic players in the 2025 class and the state. Honestly, I don’t know where he could possibly project best to right now, but I cannot get his DB reps out of my head and I think the speed, footwork, and playmaking ability would work well at WR as well. He reminds me a lot of former Chanhassen and Coastal Carolina standout Alex Spillum. Cannot wait to see what the future holds for the Monti product.

6’2, 195 lb. Monticello sophomore Emmerich has already earned some lofty compliments from scouts around the state but had to step in a do a few different things for Monti this season and worked to update his prep position and college projection from “QB” to “athlete.” The 6’2, 195 lber. showcases his athleticism in the third play of his midseason tape where he successfully pulls off a beautiful hurdle over an almost totally upright defender, and he opens his tape with some dazzling and light-footed runs showing off quickness, balance, vision, and a mean-stiff arm. I also like the touch and arm strength he showed on a couple of reps, but the midseason tape is mostly filled with runs, so I get the feeling Emmerich is wanting to market his versatility as a sophomore. He did earn praise from 24/7Sports Midwest analyst Allen Trieu for his arm at the Gophers summer prospect camp, so the matter of his college projection is a fine debate at this point in time. He visited South Dakota State this fall.
