Expert Analysis

Melvin Spicer is a true dual-threat quarterback. Looking to step into the QB1 role at Bishop Gorman, he’s a constant threat to score both through the air and on the ground. His lightning-quick feet get him up to speed so fast that defenders are rarely able to get a good grip on him. The burst he possesses allows him to really gash defenses on read options and puts the opposing edge rusher in an impossible situation. When he drops back to pass, he can occasionally get caught backpedaling in his dropback and then has to rely on his quick feet to get into position in order to rip the ball to his receiver. With that being said, he has a naturally powerful arm and can seemingly put the ball exactly where he wants it. With his incredible athleticism, and some attention to detail with his footwork, Spicer could really take his game to the next level in his final high school season.

Spicer has waiting patiently for 3 seasons behind Alejado and is the early favorite to be QB1 for the Gaels. Spicer is a leader in the Lockeroom and has elite arm talent combined with elite athleticism to escape the pocket. Although Spicer has not had the opportunity to show the state what he can do as QB1, he is talented enough to earn two division one offers from Hawaii and Portland St.
