Roby is coming off a tremendous Junior season from Corona Centennial before making the transfer to Mater Dei. He is a compact and explosive back that runs violent, has good contact balance through the hole and natural forward lean while tough to bring down once he gets going. Roby is also a very smooth athlete with lateral twitch in the hole, shows open field speed in the clear and a natural pass catcher out of the backfield. One of the top backs in the state, he currently does not hold any offers and has been criminally under-recruited to this point.

Roby ran for 575 yards with six touchdowns in six games last season for Centennial and has since transferred to Mater Dei.
He had a breakout game against Mission Viejo in the playoffs where he ran for 206 yards with two touchdowns. Roby was smooth at the All-22 camp this March and changes directions seamlessly. He gets to the line of scrimmage quickly and is a tough guy to bring down.
Morgan State has offered him and I expect some more offers to roll in after playing some high-profile games for Mater Dei.

Roby’s got a good skillset that combines his size, athleticism, and quickness. At 6’0” 200 lbs. he’s got a well-built frame that allows him to break contact and maintain forward momentum with good leg drive. Plus short area burst coupled with his fluid lateral movement, he’s able to make sudden cuts and change directions on a dime. Applies pressure to the defense early by pressing the LOS and accelerating through the first level. Good vision and ball carrier instincts to exploit open running lanes and hit the cutback. Strong at the POA, he flashes good balance and to slip tackles or push defenders off him with a stiff arm. Transferred to Mater Dei to play out his senior season and holds an FCS offer from Morgan State while receiving recruiting attention from several other D1 programs.

Roby is better when the pads come on, but he looked solid in the reps I saw him take on Sunday. He had quick feet and was able to get to the edge faster than linebackers were able to in the open field drill.

Roby ran for 206 yards with a pair of touchdowns in Centennial’s 25-20 win over Mission Viejo.
He’s a strong, downhill runner with excellent balance who can get skinny through the hole and then run someone over.
