Bixby AT Owasso</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For the third straight season, Bixby and Owasso will kick off the season against one another and if history repeats itself in 2024, this will be the first of two meetings this year. They met in the 2022 opener and then would face off in the state championship game. Last year, they squared off in the opener and then in the semifinals. Bixby has won all four meetings and none have been particularly close. But the target on the Spartans is bigger than ever before and Owasso has one of, if not the best offensive line in the state. Another wrinkle to this year's match-up is they are going away from a neutral setting at TU and Owasso will host. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Sept. 13th - Jenks AT Union</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It feels like we say this before every season but it's the truth. It's Jenks and Union, we don't need to explain this one that much do we? But for the sake of this exercise, we will. The Jenks-Union rivalry has been arguably the greatest high school football rivalry in Oklahoma for three decades now. Whether it's in the regular season or in the playoffs, this match-up has so much intrigue to it. And the last time we saw these two meet, another "instant classic" chapter was written. Union led 21-0 early in the second quarter but Jenks would storm back and score what would be the game-winning touchdown with 32 seconds left. It doesn't get much better than this one. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Sept. 27th - Jenks AT Bixby</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Just like with the Jenks-Union match-up, we don't have to do much to hype this one up. It's #1 vs #2 and a rematch of last year's state championship game. And for the last two years, we've had to wait until week ten to see Bixby and Jenks square off. This season, we get it right from the jump in the first game of district play. Right now, Bixby has a firm grip on the crown in Class 6A-1. But right now, it's really hard to ignore the talent that Jenks has coming into this season. While it would be fun to build the drama all year to another week ten showdown, we're glad we get this year's meeting as early as possible. And odds are it'll be the first of two meetings in 2024. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Oct. 4th - Owasso AT Union</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One week after the Bixby-Jenks showdown, we'll see Union hosting Owasso in another game that, at least it looks like on paper, could end up deciding the district championship. More times than not, the winner of this game has gone on to win the district crown. The Redhawks will host an Owasso team and this has been a series that has turned into one of the closer match-ups in 6A-1 over the last five years. Both teams come into this season with state championship aspirations. Both teams should be playing with confidence by the time week five rolls around. The winner here will be in a very good position while the loser is going to have some work to do. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Nov. 8th - Edmond Santa Fe AT Norman North</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There are other intriguing 6A-1 match-ups outside of Tulsa county and this week ten clash is one of them. Norman North will host Edmond Santa Fe and we'll see Santa Fe's rushing attack go up against Norman North's QB-WR duo that might be the best in 6A-1 this season. And with this game taking place in week ten, it will feel like the playoffs came early because this will absolutely decide some playoff seeds the following week. Both teams have the potential to be the "best from the west" in 6A-1 this season and could challenge one of those four Tulsa county programs. Both have had that kind of success and want to repeat it in 2024. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2024 SEASON OUTLOOK</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 2024 football season in Class 6A-1 is definitely headlined by the top four teams from the Tulsa area with Bixby, Jenks, Owasso and Union. But there is going to be some very good football played in this class and there are more storylines to follow. Deer Creek is looking to have an instant impact in their first ever season in the state's largest class and has the quarterback to do just that. In fact, there are quite a few marquee quarterbacks to watch in Class 6A-1. You can find D1 commits at QB for Deer Creek, Edmond Memorial, Norman North and Union. Plus many more names that will emerge this fall. Broken Arrow is hungry to bounce back in a major way after struggling in 2023 but the Tigers bring almost everyone back in 2024. Finding out which team can become that "best from the west" will be a fun storyline to follow and whether or not any of them can knock off one of those top four teams. But when it comes down to it, those four are the top four teams for a reason. Bixby has held the crown and until someone beats them, you have to tip your cap to them. And oh by the way, if they win another title in 2024, they'll be the first 11-man program in state history to win seven straight gold balls. But perhaps Jenks is that team that can beat the Spartans and return to the mountain top in Class 6A-1. Union has been knocking on the door and they are hungrier than ever after back to back heartbreaking losses in the playoffs. And Owasso is starting a new era under first year head coach Antonio Graham. Everywhere you look in this class, you'll find good football, being played at a high level. We're looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
