had a solid first year in the backfield with the Redhawks but he’s hungry for much more this season. Schelling dealt with nagging injuries throughout the year so it was tough to say that he was ever at 100 percent at any point during the season. When he is at 100 percent, Schelling has the potential to be one of the better running backs in 6A-1. He’s proven that over the last two seasons and nothing changes in 2024. With a strong and improving offensive line, we think that Schelling could produce at a high level this season. And if that happens, that’s going to take a lot of pressure off Union’s passing game.

moved from Jenks to Union and immediately became the top running back in the Union offense. Schelling performed really well and similar to McAdoo, he had a knack for making big plays in the running game as well as making catches out of the backfield. Schelling was a breakout player during his sophomore season and elevated his game last season. Now, we’re looking forward to seeing how Schelling improves his game to shoulder more of a load in year two in the Union offense. When he’s healthy, Schelling is a running back that can make a ton of plays and has the ability to be a workhorse if necessary.

moved from rival Jenks during the summer last year and provided an instant spark for the Redhawks on offense. Schelling finished his junior season putting up some solid numbers and also dealt with nagging injuries but still was able to produce. When we put on the tape from last fall, the first thing that really stands out is his ability to explode out of the backfield. Schelling is your typical running back where the phrase “shot out of a cannon” comes up because he gets the ball and he absolutely rockets himself through the line of scrimmage. Once Schelling gets to the second level, he has the moves and strength to handle linebackers and defensive backs in one on one situations. He rarely gets brought down by one defender. And when Schelling is being brought down, he seems to always be falling forward, fighting for extra yards and rarely getting pushed backwards. Schelling also runs with purpose. He has the ability to make moves in the open field but the goal is always going north and south. An underrated quality is his hands and he showcased that a few times. As he continues to get faster and work on his breakaway speed, he’ll be one of the better backs in Tulsa.Access all of Prep Redzone

The first of two Union Redhawks on this breakdown and interestingly enough, they are two Redhawks that used to suit up for rival Jenks in the past. Junior running back

is closing in on 1,000 yards on the ground and we’ve really liked the production he’s had this season. The rushing yards are obvious but he’s also been able to make plays out of the backfield. And with Union missing their star quarterback over the last few weeks, Schelling has elevated his game and appears to be ready for an elevated workload moving forward. Schelling earned his first D1 offer recently and the hard-running standout is just scratching the surface when it comes to that department. This has been an excellent and consistent season for Schelling.

is starting to hit his stride and that’s a dangerous thing for the rest of Class 6A-1. In the first five games of the season, Schelling had three rushing touchdowns and no game with more than one touchdown. But in the last two games, including Friday night’s win over Mustang, Schelling has six touchdowns on the ground with back to back games of three rushing touchdowns. Schelling ended up being a workhorse back on the night. He finished the night with 24 carries for 88 yards and the three touchdowns. Now, as we head into week eight, we get a monster match-up featuring junior running backs that are playing outstanding football. And with a freshman at quarterback, we expect Schelling to see his workload to go up.

was a sophomore for Jenks and had several big plays against the Redhawks. Fast forward to this week’s meeting and Schelling will be on the visitor’s sideline when Union travels to face the rival Trojans. Schelling moved to Union in the summer and has become Union’s top running back and just a versatile weapon on the offensive side of the ball. He’s produced in the running game, which was to be expected, but he’s also become a target in the passing game. He had a catch and run for a touchdown in the win over Broken Arrow last week and as he gets more and more comfortable in this offense, more opportunities are going to open up for him. We really like the depth that Union has at the running back position and Schelling has really taken this opportunity and ran with it so far this season.

ended up being one of the breakout players from the 2022 season. With the Trojans missing some big names because of injuries, Schelling stepped into a role early on in the season and became an impact player for the Trojans. Schelling feels like the prototypical Jenks running back with the way he runs the ball and does so many things incredibly well already at a young age. Schelling was a breakout player for the Trojans at the running back position and it wasn’t simply for what he did with the ball in his hands. Schelling was a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield and he was also very helpful as an extra blocker. The strength appears to be off the charts for Schelling as his running power is evident when he has the ball and then looking at all the film of him in pass protection situations. When Schelling has the ball, he has a very strong stiff arm and sheds defenders rather easily. We are looking forward to seeing the steps Schelling takes this offseason as an established playmaker.

is probably the most under the radar out of the bunch. Just a sophomore, Schelling was thrusted into the lineup last week against Owasso and he responded incredibly well. He would finish with over 100 yards and a touchdown in the win. Despite the injury problems along the offensive line, Schelling still managed to get the job done against an Owasso defense that has some talented players within the front seven. Schelling is facing a new challenger in Union, where the front seven and the defense overall is flat out dominant and they have some swagger heading into this week after shutting down Broken Arrow in week one. Schelling looks to become the next breakout star in Backyard Bowl history.
