This is a Norman defense that comes into this season as an inexperienced unit but they do return senior

at the linebacker position. Earlier in the preview, we mentioned Norman’s linebacker becoming the leader of this defense and becoming an extension of the coaching staff. Boyd is that guy and certainly has that potential. Last season, Boyd would finish with over 120 tackles on the season and firmly established himself as one of the best linebackers, not only in Class 6A-1 but in the state. This year, he wants to leave no doubt that he’s one of the best in Oklahoma and he can do that by leading this Norman defense to new heights.

got our attention this offseason when he came to our January camp and took home the linebacker MVP award. He then defended that title at our last camp in April and has firmly established himself as one of the better linebackers in the state. We’ve seen him in a camp setting and now we’ve seen him in person with the pads on. We got a chance to see Norman earlier this season and Boyd impressed. He’s a physical player and the Tigers take advantage of that by playing him some on the offensive side of the ball. He leads the team in tackles and tackles for loss and he’s going to once again eclipse 100 tackles for the season. Boyd is a linebacker to keep an eye on moving forward as he continues to develop.

quite a bit this offseason and we’re looking forward to seeing him back in action with the pads on this fall. Boyd first got on our radar back in January when he was the MVP of our linebacker group at our first prospect camp. He came back in April and dominated again and became a back to back MVP. Now, that was in a camp setting with no pads, no helmets, not the football we see on a Friday night. We’re looking forward to seeing how Boyd carries that over to this season when those pads come on. If last season was any indication, he’ll be one of the top linebackers in 6A-1. Last fall, he finished with a little over 100 tackles and eight sacks on the year. He’s looking to go to the next level this fall.

Similar to Carter, we didn’t know much of anything about Norman’s

at this time last year. But he got on our radar quickly this offseason when he ran away with the MVP award for linebackers at our camp in January. We then put on the tape from his sophomore year and were very impressed with the productivity. Then Boyd came back and attended our last camp in late April and went back to back as linebacker MVP and that’s something we haven’t had on our camp circuit since running events in Oklahoma. Boyd is a compact backer that should have a big season. We really like some of the young talent that the Tigers have on this team and think that Norman could end up surprising quite a few teams in Class 6A-1 this season.

looked impressive in the broad jump, but also throughout the whole camp. He was named the Most Valuable Player for the linebackers. That was reflective in his performance, as he recorded a staggering 9’5″ and then slightly dipped to 9’4″. It was an all-around performance for him.

following his second straight MVP award for the linebacker position. He was the top linebacker at our camp back in January and he took the top spot once again on Sunday. The linebacker position was deep on Sunday and the competition for the top spot was incredibly tough. But at the end of the day, the Norman standout was once again the best of the best when you’re talking about the linebacker position. Boyd tested very well once again and then was outstanding in the competition portion of the camp. Coming into our camp back in January, we didn’t know hardly anything about Boyd and he opened plenty of eyes at our camp in January and we’ve been fans of his game ever since. Boyd is a good looking linebacker and he has the potential with two more high school seasons to continue to grow and really become one of the top guys at his position in the 2025 class. We look for Boyd to have a pretty strong junior season this fall.

is the first of two Norman standouts from the defensive side of the ball on this breakdown. Boyd first got on our radar last month when he dominated our camp in Broken Arrow and was the MVP for the linebacker position. We’ve thrown on the film a few times since that performance and it’s hard not to be impressed with what he was able to do last fall for the Tigers. Boyd was incredibly productive at the linebacker position and one thing that really stood out from the film was his speed. He tested incredibly well at our camp and put that speed on display with one of the faster 40-yard dash times. And on film, that speed is apparent as he gets from point A to point B in a hurry. A few other things that really stood out was his high motor and ability to not give up on a play. And when he hit an opponent, that opponent was going down as he does a very good job wrapping up and and dragging them to the ground. Something that might go unnoticed but didn’t to us was how Boyd also had high production against some of the best teams on their schedule. We want to see more pass coverage from Boyd moving forward and there might be a size question with his height but Boyd checks just about every box for linebackers.
