Jake Rogers Jake Rogers 6'0" | 160 lbs | QB Basha | 2027 AZ got thrown into the fire after an injury and played like a kid who’d been running that offense all season — calm, clean, and totally under control. What jumped off the tape was the composure. He wasn’t out there just trying to survive or play hero ball; he was working through his reads, taking what the defense gave him, and trusting the structure of the offense. You could actually see the throws tighten up and the decisions speed up as he stacked reps, which says a lot about how quickly he was processing things. That Open Division title run matters, too — those aren’t easy snaps, and a lot of guys shrink when the pressure ramps up. He didn’t. He feels like one of those quarterbacks you want to be early on, because with a full offseason as the guy and time to really own the offense, it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see his game take another noticeable jump.

Jake Rogers Jake Rogers 6'0" | 160 lbs | QB Basha | 2027 AZ played this one with a calmness that didn’t look anything like a kid making just his fifth start. Early on he kept everything simple, taking the easy throws, checking it down when he needed to, and keeping the offense on schedule instead of trying to force something that wasn’t there. His legs popped early too — that opening touchdown run was all instinct and feel, seeing daylight and taking it without hesitation. Even the one risky ball he let fly came from confidence, not panic, and the rest of the night he just looked steady. For a former backup thrown into the biggest stage Arizona high school football offers, this was as composed and grown-up a performance as you could ask for.

Rogers showed the kind of poise you rarely see from a young quarterback. Calm, confident, and ripping the ball through tight windows, he didn’t look like a sophomore just trying to hang on — he looked like a quarterback ready to lead. Thrown into the fire in Week 1, he came on in the second quarter and immediately tested the secondary with deep shots, showing he wasn’t afraid to challenge downfield. What really stood out was how steady he stayed when he wasn’t expected to be in a position that usually requires weeks of prep work. Even after briefly coming out, he reentered with his arm strength still popping off the field, layering throws and keeping Basha balanced. He was a standout not because of gaudy numbers, but because of the way he handled himself in a tough spot — calm, composed, and proving he can be trusted to run the show when called upon.

Another year, another Basha quarterback with tools that make you take notice. Rogers has that prototypical gunslinger energy — he’s got a live arm that can push the ball downfield with ease, and he’s athletic enough to extend plays when things break down. He’s not looking to run, though. He keeps his eyes downfield and tries to make a throw, which shows a level of maturity and confidence in his arm. There’s a clear resemblance in play style to Brodie Vehrs Brodie Vehrs 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Basha | 2026 State AZ , Basha’s current starter — strong arm, some mobility, and a natural feel for attacking vertically. That said, like most young QBs, there are still a few things to clean up. At times, you’ll see him rush through his mechanics when pressured, and it can throw off his mechanics through his delivery. But that’s normal at this stage, and the fact that he’s already got the instincts and physical traits puts him in a good spot to develop quickly. What’ll be interesting is whether Basha looks to get him some late-game varsity reps this year — even just a few series could go a long way in preparing him to take over down the line. He’s definitely a name to keep on the radar as he grows into the role.
