Expert Analysis
Hunter Tierney | Prep Redzone Scout
Duerson lined up all over the field and looked like a true hybrid linebacker who can cover like a safety. He was everywhere — setting edges, jumping quick outs, and making Brophy’s life miserable. His versatility stood out the most. He can drop into coverage and move like a defensive back, staying balanced with smooth footwork and enough quickness to take away short routes. At the same time, he plays with real physicality in the run game, filling gaps and setting the edge with authority. That combination makes him the kind of defender who constantly keeps an offense off-schedule. Coaches trust him because he can be effective in just about any situation.

Duerson is the kind of linebacker that offensive coordinators hate to scheme against — he’s fast, physical, and always seems to be around the ball. His explosiveness lets him shoot through gaps before linemen even have a chance to get their hands on him, and once he’s locked in on a ball carrier, he’s bringing them down. He plays with patience, waiting for the play to develop before attacking, but when he goes, he goes full speed. He’s also got a natural feel for dropping into coverage, making him a true three-down linebacker. After a breakout first year, he’s already earned a reputation as one of the best young defenders in the state, and it’s only a matter of time before colleges start lining up.

The outstanding defender out of Basha comes in as our top ranked LB in the 2027 class. He’s an instinctual playmaker possessing great ability to anticipate and diagnose plays before they develop. He’s a physical presence in the box filling running lanes and attacking ball carriers with authority. Like his reactionary quickness to trigger to the ball with speed and burst to close. Frees himself up by either weaving through traffic or taking on/shedding blockers. Relentless in pursuit, he’s savvy finding lanes to the ball carrier but still limits wasted movement to take good angles. Flashes great range to make plays at different depths and sideline to sideline. One of the top tacklers in the 2027 class during the 2024 season with 106. D1 caliber prospect that helped one of the top programs in the state to the Open title game as a sophomore.
