Jordan Reyes | Prep Redzone Scout
After an impressive junior season at Salpointe rushing for 925 yards and 9 touchdowns, Chaney recently transferred to Basha to play out his senior year. 6’0” 215 lbs. he’s got a strong/well-built frame with the skillset to be a quality recruit on either side of the ball at RB or LB. He’s a hard downhill runner that attacks the LOS to get vertical immediately and runs through contact at the first level. Flashes decisive vision with the ability to identify running lanes quickly and commit without hesitation. Plus contact balance, he runs behind his pads and absorbs contact while maintaining forward momentum/leg drive. Shows he can make defenders miss in tight spaces and in the open field with quick lateral agility and sudden cuts. A guy to keep an eye on that can blow up on the recruiting scene with his size, athleticism, and versatile skillset.

Charles has the kind of frame and running style that immediately makes you take notice. He’s got legit size for a high school back, and when he starts picking up speed, he’s a load to deal with. What really stands out is how he runs through contact — not just absorbing hits, but delivering the blow and finishing runs forward. Even when it looks like he’s bottled up, he finds a way to fall forward and squeeze out a couple extra yards. It’s not flashy, but it’s effective, and it wears defenses down. There’s still some room for growth, especially when it comes to quickness in tight spaces. There are times when quicker defenders are able to close the gap before he can fully open it up. With some added work on that short-area burst and more experience navigating traffic, he could take a big step forward. He’s already showing flashes of what he can be. Once the footwork catches up with the size and toughness, he could be a real force for Salpointe’s offense.

is a prospect to start kicking the tires on. At 5-foot-10 and 205-pounds, he’s a thick athlete who plays a number of different positions for the Tucson Scorpions youth team. Chaney lives in the weightroom and both his build, and his performance on the field, show it’s paying off. The barrel-chested eighth-grader sees time at Linebacker, Running Back and Defensive End. If I had to project right now, which is a bit of a crapshoot, I see him as a Mike Linebacker in high school. For comparison, I see a lot of four-time Pro Bowler, Jeremiah Trotter in Chaney’s game. He’s a bigger, thicker Linebacker that gets downhill quickly and hunts Quarterbacks all game long. Chaney tells me he’ll be at Salpointe Catholic next year for high school. The Lancers are currently ranked the No.28 team in Arizona.
