A case could be made for multiple options as game of the week in the classification, including Bettendorf at Prairie, Waukee at Kennedy and Dowling Catholic at Dallas Center Grimes.   We're going with a rematch of last year's wild affair in Iowa City that saw West High win a 49-35 decision against Pleasant Valley. The Trojans snapped a four-game skid in the series.   West is off to a 2-0 start despite heavy graduation losses. Its wins came against winless opponents in Iowa City High and Dubuque Hempstead by a combined scored of 86-7. Friday's contest in Bettendorf significantly increases the degree of difficulty.   Junior [player_tooltip player_id='600173' first='Reece' last='Wheeler'] has completed 60 percent of his passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns without in interception as a first-year starter for the Trojans. [player_tooltip player_id='1699746' first='Campbell' last='Janis'] has rushed for 224 yards (7.4 YPC), and [player_tooltip player_id='1692076' first='Mikey' last='Moody'] has 94 and two touchdowns on the ground. [player_tooltip player_id='1238635' first='Ethan' last='Headings'] has caught eight balls for 259 yards and four touchdowns, and [player_tooltip player_id='1238174' first='Colin' last='Whitters'] has been credited with nine pancake blocks. Headings, [player_tooltip player_id='1238512' first='Julian' last='Manson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1863557' first='Cooper' last='Prochaska'], Kellen Craig and Ashten Holmes have played well defensively.   PV quarterback Lincoln Dalton has contributed with his arm and legs. He's thrown for 222 yards and two touchdowns against no picks and rushed for 101 yards and three scores. Evan Barr has 132 yards (8.8 YPC) on the ground, and Jackson O'Melia has hauled in six throws for 112 yards. [player_tooltip player_id='1691196' first='Graham' last='Rima'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1617632' first='Luke' last='Knutson'] have combined for 27.5 tackles, which include 22 solo stops. O'Melia, Oscar Belman, [player_tooltip player_id='1584396' first='Dane' last='Cox'], Brady Averill and Nick Malli also have stood out on defense.   CLASS 4A   CLEAR CREEK AMANA (2-0) AT CEDAR RAPIDS XAVIER (2-0)   Unlike the state's biggest classification, 4A boasts several matchups of high interest in Week 3. ADM at defending champion North Polk certainly will draw plenty of attention as will Pella at North Scott, and Waverly-Shell Rock visiting Western Dubuque.   We're going with top-ranked Xavier playing host to upstart Clear Creek Amana. The Clippers will be trying to win back-to-back in a series that saw them drop the first four meetings.   CCA rolled over Davenport West and Davenport North by a combined score of 114-6. Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1242954' first='Conlan' last='Poynton'] has thrown for two touchdowns and run for five more. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1596516' first='Texton' last='Bollers'] has added 142 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries, [player_tooltip player_id='1818828' first='Noah' last='Collis'] has 88 yards and a pair of scores on only seven totes, and [player_tooltip player_id='1242952' first='Aren' last='Schlemme'] has hauled in a couple of TDs. Teagan Heisdorffer, [player_tooltip player_id='1819780' first='Aidan' last='Schrock'] and Ian Kelley are among the defensive standouts.   Xavier has faced the much stiffer competition of these two teams, beating North Scott and Western Dubuque. The Saints have gotten a lot out of quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1827747' first='Cash' last='Parks'], who has completed almost 86 percent of his throws for 250 yards and five touchdowns against no interceptions and added 125 yards (6.6 YPC) and a score on the ground. [player_tooltip player_id='1238169' first='Carter' last='Hoffmann'] has picked up 166 yards and a TD rushing, Sam Leuck and [player_tooltip player_id='1619867' first='Ryan' last='Kelly'] have teamed up for five scoring grabs. [player_tooltip player_id='1827791' first='Beau' last='Morio'], [player_tooltip player_id='1620097' first='Zander' last='Armstrong'], Carson Mahoney, [player_tooltip player_id='1238598' first='Jack' last='Schimberg'] and Deronte Strong have ranked among the standouts on defense.   CLASS 3A   MOUNT VERNON (2-0) AT SOLON (2-0)   This long-running and storied rivalry will add another chapter on Friday. As has been the case throughout the years, the two teams are title contenders and will be measuring themselves against each other.   Solon has topped formidable opponents in Williamsburg and Assumption by a combined score of 69-27. First-year starter [player_tooltip player_id='1241515' first='Eli' last='Kampman'] has completed 72.1 percent of his passes for 549 yards and eight touchdowns against just one interception. [player_tooltip player_id='1532898' first='Maddox' last='Kelley'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1885005' first='Kaden' last='Hoeper'] each has hauled in four scoring grabs. [player_tooltip player_id='1241536' first='Kyler' last='Jensen'], [player_tooltip player_id='1842569' first='Tripp' last='Johnson'], James Thomsen, [player_tooltip player_id='1693683' first='Cody' last='Milliman'], [player_tooltip player_id='1842915' first='Colby' last='Myers'], Simon Einwalter and [player_tooltip player_id='1204514' first='Lucas' last='Feuerbach'] have played key roles for a stingy Spartan defense.   Drake commit [player_tooltip player_id='1581168' first='Kellen' last='Haverback'] has thrown for 469 yards and five scores without a pick and rushed for three TDs during the Mustangs' victories against Monticello and Benton. [player_tooltip player_id='1204530' first='Tommy' last='Rhomberg'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1841812' first='Michael' last='Ryan'] have each caught two scores, and [player_tooltip player_id='1841794' first='Caysen' last='Curran'] has been a threat running and receiving. On defense, Curran, [player_tooltip player_id='1241540' first='Jaxon' last='Anderson'], Eli Plotz, Leuie Korte II and [player_tooltip player_id='1885084' first='Jakob' last='Yock'] have been among the guys getting the job done.   CLASS 2A   GRUNDY CENTER (2-0) AT DIKE-NEW HARTFORD (2-0)   It's still early enough in the season that we can pick games that match up schools from different classifications. In this case, three-time defending state champion Grundy Center from Class 1A visiting 2A Dike-New Hartford in a contest between two schools located about 15 miles away from each other. The series is tied, 6-6, but Grundy Center, which is riding a 41-game winning streak, has taken the last six meetings.   [player_tooltip player_id='1614184' first='Judd' last='Jirovsky'] has completed almost 80 percent of his passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns for the Spartans. Pete Lebo has 153 yards (7.3 YPC) and four TDs rushing, while Hayden Geerdes has 88 yards and a pair of scores on 10 carries. [player_tooltip player_id='1905854' first='Devin' last='Hinders'] has caught six balls for 170 yards and a touchdown. Lebo, Geerdes, [player_tooltip player_id='1632063' first='Aiden' last='Betts'], Cooper Keller and Ryder Slifer have been among the dudes making plays on defense.   Quarterback Peyton Pokorny has made plays with his arm and legs for the Wolverines. Devlin Davis and Gavin Gerbracht form a dangerous 1-2 punch at running back, and Aiden Walston has averaged 22.3 yards and scored two TDs on four receptions. Gerbracht, Lane Girsch, Dawson Dietrick, Levi Folkerts, Devlin Davis and Quinn Mills have helped guide a salty defense.   CLASS 1A   ALBURNETT (2-0) AT REGINA CATHOLIC (2-0)   Like we did in 2A, we're going with a classification crossover with 2A Alburnett visiting 1A Regina Catholic. The Regals own a 4-0 advantage in the series but the teams will be meeting for the first time since 2020.   [player_tooltip player_id='1901425' first='Laken' last='Caves'] has carried much of the offensive load (literally) for the Pirates. He's rushed the ball 41 times for 405 yards and six touchdowns. He's also caught six balls for 93 yards and a TD. Brody Kaestner has thrown for 241 yards and a couple scores. Leading the way on defense are Caves, Cooper Franklin, Owen Henriksen, Hunter Sauer, Eaghan Fleshman, Wyatt Schrader and Liam Carolan.   For Regina, [player_tooltip player_id='1197445' first='Savion' last='Miller'] has rushed for 298 yards (7.7 YPC) and four touchdowns with [player_tooltip player_id='1605331' first='Gabriel' last='Hegelheimer'] adding 98 (8.2 YPC) and two scores on the ground. [player_tooltip player_id='1657101' first='Kyle' last='Tracy'] has thrown for 252 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 79 yards and a TD, and [player_tooltip player_id='466364' first='Tate' last='Wallace'] has caught 10 balls for 101 yards and a touchdown. Wallace, [player_tooltip player_id='1370666' first='Aaron' last='Honore'], [player_tooltip player_id='1871912' first='Edwin' last='Gangba'], James Whisler, Roan Eckhoff and [player_tooltip player_id='1657093' first='Drew' last='Greve'] have been productive on defense.   CLASS A   BECKMAN CATHOLIC (2-0) AT MAQUOKETA VALLEY (1-1)   Keeping with the theme this week, Beckman Catholic from Class 1A will be facing Class A Maquoketa Valley. It's just the second meeting between schools separated by 16 miles with the Wildcats taking the first one, 7-3, in 2007.   Brady Gogel, Mack Wolfe, Chase White and [player_tooltip player_id='1692322' first='Cody' last='Hageman'] are statistical leaders for Beckman, while Trevor Grimm, Rogan Heidt and [player_tooltip player_id='1360436' first='Dylan' last='Knipper'] can make the same claim for Maq Valley.   EIGHT-PLAYER   FREMONT-MILLS (2-0) AT WOODBINE (2-0)   The fifth-ranked team in this week's Prep Redzone rankings travels to No. 1 for the top matchup in eight-player football. [player_tooltip player_id='1358997' first='Sawyer' last='Forney'], Jonathan Ekpai and [player_tooltip player_id='1358991' first='JW' last='Linkenhoker'] are shining for the Knights. Brodyn Pryor, Micah Moores, [player_tooltip player_id='1197458' first='Landon' last='Blum'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1358962' first='Brenner' last='Sullivan'] are among the Woodbine leaders. Fremont-Mills owns a 6-0 mark in this series with the last meeting happening in 2020.
