Orange Lutheran was one of the best young teams in the Southern Section in 2022.

The Lancers were loaded with young talent, particularly on the offensive and defensive lines, and have a ton of players returning.

At quarterback, the Lancers have three quality options in [player_tooltip player_id='282728' first='TJ' last='Lateef'], [player_tooltip player_id='401215' first='Alex' last='Medyn'] and [player_tooltip player_id='406660' first='John' last='Gazzaniga']. The other offensive skill positions are a mystery for the Lancers with their top rushers and receivers graduating. [player_tooltip player_id='723685' first='AJ' last='Ia'] and [player_tooltip player_id='282715' first='Tyler' last='Hennessy'] are two offensive skill players to keep an eye on.

The offensive line is young but loaded with talent. I would put Orange Lutheran's lineman up against anyone in the state. [player_tooltip player_id='780266' first='Samuelu' last='Utu'] is a blue chip sophomore with 17 offers already. [player_tooltip player_id='283610' first='Dustin' last='Foisia'] was a standout at the Allegiance Lineman camps along with [player_tooltip player_id='841046' first='Arion' last='Williams'] and [player_tooltip player_id='976935' first='Cole' last='Principe'].

The defensive line is led by two young guys in [player_tooltip player_id='780311' first='Auma' last='Jennings'] and [player_tooltip player_id='723736' first='Jireh' last='Moe']. [player_tooltip player_id='409270' first='Jayden' last='Perez'] is a linebacker to watch and [player_tooltip player_id='282779' first='Jonathan' last='“Jojo” Edwards'] is one of the better defensive players in the Trinity League.

[player_tooltip player_id='283686' first='Talanoa' last='Ili'] is back and led the team in tackles as a freshman last season.

Let's take a look at the teams that Orange Lutheran will be playing in 2023.

8/18 VS. SERRA

Orange Lutheran narrowly beat Serra last season 27-26 in the season opener. [player_tooltip player_id='147716' first='Cincere' last='Rhaney'] returns at running back after being one of the top rushers in Southern California last season. [player_tooltip player_id='115478' first='Zacharyus' last='Williams'] returns at receiver and has offers from UCLA and Colorado State among others. Daylawn Reed is a good young defensive player to watch for Serra. [player_tooltip player_id='349373' first='Noa' last='Keohuloa'] is a good defensive player and [player_tooltip player_id='195513' first='Dakoda' last='Fields'] is committed to USC. Rhaney ran for 171 yards and a pair of touchdowns in last year's game. Lateef had a breakout game with 276 yards and two touchdowns. Serra fumbled three times in that game which helped Orange Lutheran get the win.

https://twitter.com/Serra__Football/status/1627358111613980673?s=20

8/25 @ DE LA SALLE

The Lancers will head up to Concord to play one of the perennial top programs in Northern California in De La Salle. [player_tooltip player_id='115459' first='Carson' last='Su'esu'e'] was set to start at De La Salle at quarterback but recently transferred to Granger High in Utah. [player_tooltip player_id='406693' first='Toa' last='Faavae'] is the likely starter at quarterback and is a dual threat guy. They return a pair of talented junior running backs in [player_tooltip player_id='282689' first='Derrick' last='Blanche'] and [player_tooltip player_id='976876' first='Dominic' last='Kelley']. [player_tooltip player_id='115466' first='Drew' last='Cunningham'] leads the defense along with Chris Biller. This will be a tough challenge for Orange Lutheran but the Lancers have the talent to win this game.

https://twitter.com/dlsfootball17/status/1628826582751248384?s=20

9/1 VS. EASTSIDE CATHOLIC (WA)

Eastside Catholic is one of the best teams in Washington and has some highly-touted players. Defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='338789' first='Tyson' last='Weaver'] is one of the top defensive players in Washington along with [player_tooltip player_id='643348' first='Ambrose' last='Marsh']. [player_tooltip player_id='158344' first='AJ' last='Tanupo'] is a highly-ranked defensive lineman and [player_tooltip player_id='158333' first='David' last='Lene'] is a good linebacker. [player_tooltip player_id='158370' first='Jayden' last='Reyes'] is an offensive skill player to watch for Eastside Catholic.

9/8 @ CHANDLER (AZ)

Chandler is the best program in Arizona with the most marquee players. Ca'Lil Valentine is the best running back in the state and you can argue that Notre Dame commit Kennedy Urlacher is the best defensive back in the state. Jaxon Branch is a lengthy receiver with offers and Kaden Anderson is a big tight end that causes matchup problems. Mateo Rodriguez leads the offensive line for Chandler. Chandler has 15 players in the top 200 rankings in the class of 2024 on Prep Redzone.

https://twitter.com/chandler_wolves/status/1663699313879576577?s=20

9/15 VS. SIERRA CANYON

Sierra Canyon has a totally revamped roster from last season because of some major transfer additions. One of the best class of 2025 quarterbacks, [player_tooltip player_id='282687' first='Wyatt' last='Becker'], transferred to Sierra Canyon. Two of the top receivers in Southern California, [player_tooltip player_id='398422' first='Xavier' last='Jordan'] (USC) and [player_tooltip player_id='683607' first='Kwazi' last='Gilmer'] (uncommitted) have transferred in and [player_tooltip player_id='282703' first='Dane' last='Dunn'] is back at running back along with [player_tooltip player_id='147709' first='Terrell' last='Cooks']. [player_tooltip player_id='273551' first='Cameron' last='Mitchell'] is another playmaking receiver and [player_tooltip player_id='115476' first='Jaylen'Dai' last='Sumlin'] is committed to Stanford. The offensive line is led by [player_tooltip player_id='398383' first='Eugene' last='Brooks'] and [player_tooltip player_id='282772' first='Ashdon' last='Wnetrzak'] is a fast rising lineman. [player_tooltip player_id='282739' first='Nevada' last='Miller'] is a defensive player I'm high on and [player_tooltip player_id='147748' first='Ruben' last='Gamboa'] is an elite defensive back. Sierra Canyon just added four-star safety [player_tooltip player_id='115429' first='Marquis' last='Gallegos'] this week and I won't be surprised if they add another top transfer or two.

https://twitter.com/SierraCanyonFB/status/1628573585936912384?s=20

9/29 @ JSERRA

Orange Lutheran opens its Trinity League slate against JSerra. The Lions added a pair of major transfers in class of 2025 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='282761' first='Michael' last='Tollefson'], who just committed to Arizona State, and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='282705' first='Madden' last='Faraimo'] who was the top sophomore in San Diego last season. JSerra has a three-headed backfield at running back with [player_tooltip player_id='406721' first='George' last='Perez'], Kamar Garbourel and [player_tooltip player_id='780472' first='Sean' last='Morris']. [player_tooltip player_id='282706' first='Jake' last='Flores'] leads the offensive line and [player_tooltip player_id='723691' first='Luke' last='Webb'] is one of the best edge rushers in his class. [player_tooltip player_id='406653' first='Logan' last='Christensen'] is a junior athlete who is gaining some recruiting steam as well. JSerra is under a new coaching staff and has a lot of firepower back from last year's surprisingly good team.

https://twitter.com/ButterTollefson/status/1671292787109822464?s=20

10/6 @ SANTA MARGARITA

Santa Margarita is going through a bit of a makeover as a program but still has some talented players. [player_tooltip player_id='147756' first='Levar' last='Talley'] is a talented edge rusher and [player_tooltip player_id='115437' first='Gage' last='Burnett'] has had a nice offseason. [player_tooltip player_id='212234' first='Skylar' last='Lendsey'] will be the running back for the Eagles and it's too soon to report but I hear there may be some major transfers coming their way.

https://twitter.com/EmmettMosley6/status/1671579672776441856?s=20

10/13 @ SERVITE

Servite was the last place team in the Trinity League last season but was very young and overmatched. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='406664' first='Leo' last='Hannan'] has recently gotten offers from San Jose State and San Diego State. [player_tooltip player_id='270921' first='Ethan' last='Naudin'] is a promising receiver who is doing well on the camp circuit. [player_tooltip player_id='723744' first='Quaid' last='Carr'] had a nice year at running back last season. Servite has a strong sophomore class, but the Friars may be a year away from moving up the Trinity League ladder.

10/20 VS. MATER DEI

Mater Dei has a new head coach for the first time in over 30 years but returns nearly 20 starters from last year's team. [player_tooltip player_id='683642' first='Elijah' last='Brown'] is the best senior quarterback in Orange County and the running back trio of [player_tooltip player_id='282698' first='Jordon' last='Davison'], [player_tooltip player_id='115462' first='Ajon' last='Bryant'] and [player_tooltip player_id='273546' first='Nate' last='Frazier'] is hard to stop. Oregon commit [player_tooltip player_id='115472' first='Jack' last='Ressler'] leads the receiving corps with [player_tooltip player_id='282711' first='Marcus' last='Harris'] and [player_tooltip player_id='683685' first='Marcus' last='Brown']. The offensive line returns four starters including top prospects Deandre Carter, [player_tooltip player_id='147730' first='Brandon' last='Baker'] and [player_tooltip player_id='282776' first='Sione' last='Tohi']. The defensive line has one of the top uncommitted players in the state in [player_tooltip player_id='115434' first='Aydin' last='Breland'] and Arizona commit [player_tooltip player_id='115435' first='Kaho' last='Tuihalamaka']. The edge rushers are elite in [player_tooltip player_id='282774' first='Nasir' last='Wyatt'] and [player_tooltip player_id='195568' first='Tanner' last='Williams']. [player_tooltip player_id='147715' first='Zabien' last='Brown'] is one of the best corners in the state and the young duo of [player_tooltip player_id='282700' first='Daryus' last='Dixson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='282734' first='Chuck' last='McDonald III'] is excellent. The Monarchs are loaded with talent and could easily be national champions in 2023.

https://twitter.com/MDFootball/status/1662112009033506816?s=20

10/27 VS. ST. JOHN BOSCO

Bosco is just as talented as Mater Dei and is the defending national champion. [player_tooltip player_id='115455' first='Caleb' last='Sanchez'] is the likely quarterback for the Braves and the running backs are deep with [player_tooltip player_id='398389' first='Cameron' last='Jones'] and [player_tooltip player_id='115464' first='Chauncey' last='Sylvester']. [player_tooltip player_id='398390' first='Hayden' last='Eligon II'], [player_tooltip player_id='283605' first='Daniel' last='Odom'] and [player_tooltip player_id='115470' first='Tommy' last='Maher'] are talented receivers and [player_tooltip player_id='209113' first='Madden' last='Williams'] is the young receiver of the future. The offensive line has a big name in SMU commit [player_tooltip player_id='273573' first='King' last='Large'] and has talent elsewhere in Maddux Sorensen and [player_tooltip player_id='841045' first='Matthew' last='Perdue']. The defense is one of the best I've seen led by [player_tooltip player_id='115443' first='Kyngstonn' last='Viliamu-Asa']. [player_tooltip player_id='273572' first='Khmori' last='House'] and [player_tooltip player_id='115469' first='Jordan' last='Lockhart'] are great linebackers and the secondary is filled with talent. [player_tooltip player_id='115433' first='Peyton' last='Woodyard'] is a Georgia commit and [player_tooltip player_id='115432' first='Marcelles' last='Williams'] is a USC commit. Once again, the Trinity League is a two-team race between Mater Dei and Bosco, but Orange Lutheran is in a great position to be the third place team.

Orange Lutheran was one of the best young teams in the Southern Section in 2022.
