About Makai

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a big, strong, fast receiver. I run my routes hard and precise. My hands are a gift, if it’s in the air it’s mine. I create separation and excel in double teams. I am great at blocking and am a team player. Student of film. This season I broke the school record for receiving TDs (16) I am 2nd all time in receiving yards (740) as a Freshman.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am very calm and collected off the field, on the field I flip a switch. I think I am very smart and genuine. I always want to help where I can and bring my brothers and peers up. I am a home body and love to be with my family. I always want to learn and perfect my craft as a football player and a man.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I play club 7s in offseason travel the country to play the best. I volunteer my time on holidays at the shelters with my dad, I try to help my community and give hope where I can.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve been the captain of my tackle and 7s teams since youth. I try and understand others situations and teach what I know and learn from them as well. I feel anybody and any situation is a learning experience. Football and life isn’t a 1 man show, team unity and support is what creates success and I’m hungry for it all. I volunteer on holidays with my dad and brother at homeless shelters

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My mom hasn’t been involved in my life since I was a baby, she’s an addict and lives on the streets. My dad raises me and I’m brothers by himself so that’s a challenge I struggle with a lot but I know God has me and that situation is meant for me to overcome and grow

What type of college are you looking for?

My dream is D1. Somewhere I can learn and sharpen my skills. I want to play against the best and learn from the best. I have been working towards that goal since I was 5.

2028 Wide Receiver Makai Nelson Makai Nelson Makai Nelson 6'0" | 184 lbs | WR/TE/TE Mountain Pointe | 2028 AZ is looking to be the go-to playmaker for this Mountain Pointe passing game. Transferring in from Chandler, Nelson has been lighting it up in spring ball in 7v7 showcases. He presents as a big, reliable target for his quarterback on the outside and over the middle, as he played WR and TE at his time in Chandler. He is an opposing force, high-pointing the ball and bringing it down with strong hands for the catch. He is also a great in-line blocker if you need him to chip or light up an in-box player to get to the outside edge. Nelson will undoubtedly be a key piece in Mountain Pointe’s success, but look out for him to produce more on the outside this season.
