PRZ Iowa Mid-March '25 Recruiting News, Notes

It's a busy time for prep prospects still looking for a college home. Schools are welcoming recruits to campus for junior days and spring practices. Action is cranking up for the 7-on-7 circuit.   Let's take a look at the latest recruiting news and notes from trail:   -A pair of West Des Moines Dowling Catholic freshmen offensive linemen already are turning the heads of staffs on the next level. Tackle [player_tooltip player_id='1583613' first='Carter' last='Barrett'] reports scholarship offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Missouri, Tennessee and Wisconsin. [player_tooltip player_id='1286887' first='Evan' last='Mitchell'] sits firmly on the radar of Power 4 schools.   The duo visited an Iowa junior day last week. That's when the Hawkeyes offered Barrett.   "One of the things that stands out about their program is their ability to develop offensive linemen as well as (OL) coach (George) Barnett's coaching style," Barrett told Prep Redzone.   The 6-foot-5, 275-pounder is grateful for top programs being interested in him joining them.   "It's exciting and humbling feeling after seeing all the work you put in towards your dream becoming a reality," Barrett said.   Mitchell (6-3, 235) started alongside Barrett on a young Maroon O-Line that paved the way for trip to the state semifinals in 2024. He visited the Hawkeyes for two games at Kinnick Stadium last season. He also stopped at Iowa State for a game.   "I am humbled and grateful to my core," he said. "I don't take any of these opportunities before me for granted; eager to keep working hard and earning these opportunities ahead to meet more with coaches and players at this level."   Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oklahoma and Wisconsin have invited Mitchell to camp with them this summer.   -Barrett wasn't the only in-state offensive lineman the Hawkeyes offered. Grinnell sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1204515' first='Will' last='Slagle'] (6-4, 280) added a Hawkeye opportunity to the one he received from Iowa State on Jan. 31.   Slagle is a <a href="https://winmorfarms.com/about-us/">farm kid</a>. As we know, that could give the Cyclones an edge. He'll have options outside of the borders to consider as well. Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri and Northwestern are showing interest in him.   "I really want to get to know Kansas State better," Slagle told Prep Redzone. "When I went to Manhattan last summer for camp, I loved the town and loved the campus. I really liked the coaches I met and think their team holds similar values to Iowa and Iowa State.   "I also know a couple people that attend school at Kansas State and it sounds like a great school as well."   QUICK-HITTERS   -Prep Redzone Iowa's top prospect in the 2026 Class, Valley Athlete [player_tooltip player_id='283946' first='Jayden' last='McGregory'], released his <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/02/iowa-recruiting-roundup-late-february-2025/">list of Top 8 schools</a> last month. Recently, he began lining up official visits. Minnesota (May 30-June 1), Missouri (June 6-8) and Louisville (June 20-22) are locked in.   -Waukee tight end [player_tooltip player_id='1221928' first='Evan' last='Jacobson'] set up an official visit to Auburn for June 13-15.   -Heelan LB [player_tooltip player_id='1238514' first='Kasen' last='Thomas'] was invited to the Under Armor camp/combine on April 27th in Columbus, OH.   -Valley WR [player_tooltip player_id='283945' first='Jayden' last='Brown'] added a scholarship offer from South Dakota to the ones he'd previously received from North Dakota, North Dakota State and South Dakota State.   -Waukee OL [player_tooltip player_id='1240558' first='Andrew' last='Hine'] stayed hot on the recruiting trail with new offers from Army and Northern Iowa already this month.   -[player_tooltip player_id='1188432' first='Mason' last='Claus'] broke through with offers in March. He announced scholarship opportunities from Army, Northern Iowa and Western Illinois.   - UNI also offered Iowa City West WR [player_tooltip player_id='1238635' first='Ethan' last='Headings'].   -Minnesota State handed out scholarship offers throughout Iowa this month. The group included Johnston OL [player_tooltip player_id='1241376' first='Colton' last='McClish'], West Lyon OL [player_tooltip player_id='401668' first='Bryce' last='Kock'], Valley QB [player_tooltip player_id='401870' first='Drake' last='DeGroote'], Ankeny DB [player_tooltip player_id='401675' first='Lamarious' last='Clark'], and Southeast Polk's [player_tooltip player_id='1619426' first='Brayden' last='Lewis'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1630199' first='Teague' last='Cantrall'], who also was offered by UNI.   -It's been a productive month for Sergeant Bluff-Luton LB [player_tooltip player_id='1370736' first='Joey' last='Hardy'], who announced new offers from Northern Iowa, Western Illinois and South Dakota.   -Northwestern invited Janesville TE/DE [player_tooltip player_id='1358226' first='Logan' last='Lashbrook'] to a summer camp.   -On March 6, Northern Iowa became the first D-I offer for Southeast Polk lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1221954' first='Cael' last='Roberts'].   -[player_tooltip player_id='283943' first='Eli' last='Robbins'] continues collecting opportunities at a steady pace. The Norwalk Athlete announced new offers from Army, Northern Iowa, Western Illinois and Penn this month.   -[player_tooltip player_id='1197438' first='Jaxx' last='DeJean'] added a new offer from UNLV. He also received camp invitations from Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio State and Auburn.   -Grandview Christian's [player_tooltip player_id='1370695' first='Brayden' last='Hoben'] attended Iowa's junior day last week.   -Central Missouri is the latest offer for Ankeny Centennial's [player_tooltip player_id='533048' first='Braylin' last='Dieken-Keahey'].   -[player_tooltip player_id='401669' first='Daniel' last='Larmie'] was invited to summer camps at Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota State and North Dakota State this month.   -Washington State, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Western Illinois and Northern Iowa invited Algona's [player_tooltip player_id='1240413' first='Evan' last='Allie'] to summer camps.   -Iowa, Iowa State and North Dakota State would like Pella LB [player_tooltip player_id='1581293' first='Nate' last='Warner'] at summer camp.   -[player_tooltip player_id='1197458' first='Landon' last='Blum'] was invited to camps at Tennessee, Kansas State, Kansas, Cincinnati, North Dakota, San Diego State, Indiana, Texas A&M and Wisconsin during the last few weeks.   -[player_tooltip player_id='1198829' first='Kason' last='Clayborne'] visited Iowa's junior day last weekend. Iowa State invited to Ames for spring football.   -[player_tooltip player_id='1197445' first='Savion' last='Miller'] added a Missouri offer on March 8. Iowa State offered back in October.   -Iowa, Indiana and North Dakota invited [player_tooltip player_id='513361' first='Carlos' last='Blount Jr']. to camps this summer.   -Oklahoma and North Dakota sent camp invitations to [player_tooltip player_id='1105154' first='Cameron' last='Bowie'].   -[player_tooltip player_id='1584432' first='Brayden' last='Hanks'] hung out at the Hawkeye junior day last week. He also was invited to camps at Iowa, Indiana, San Diego State and Wisconsin this month.   -Minnesota, Kansas and San Diego State requested [player_tooltip player_id='1105159' first='Darrian' last='Anderson']'s attendance at summer camp.   -Iowa and Iowa State extended camp invitations to [player_tooltip player_id='1077234' first='Hayden' last='Shannon'] this month.   -A pair of Solon sophomores received camp invites. [player_tooltip player_id='1204514' first='Lucas' last='Feuerbach'] was asked by Iowa State, and Iowa wants [player_tooltip player_id='1532898' first='Maddox' last='Kelley'] at a session.   -Iowa and North Dakota would like Northwest's [player_tooltip player_id='1204438' first='Joe' last='Vinyard'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1204436' first='Mack' last='Heitland'] at their camps.   -The Hawkeyes would like [player_tooltip player_id='1583687' first='Braydan' last='Doss'] to come by for a spring practice.
