Barrett has sat atop the Prep Redzone Iowa Class of 2028 rankings since their inception. He started at left tackle in one of the state’s premier programs at Dowling Catholic since he was a freshman. Barrett is an almost perfect combination of present production with incredible upside. It’s why his reported scholarship offer list is a veritable who’s who of college football programs. Barrett can basically go wherever he wants. It will be fun watching where that will be in conjunction with seeing what he can pull off on this level for two more seasons. He made significant progress from Year 1 to Year 2 and other step forward this fall can be expected. That’s bad news for Maroon opponents once again.

The top player in Iowa’s 2028 Class for years running, Barrett is the anchor to a Dowling Catholic offensive line built to decimate the opponent and take away its will. The unit led the Maroons to the Class 5A state championship last November with Barrett dominating at left tackle. He’s big and bad, and a technician, to boot. Power 4 powers have spent a lot of time working for his commitment because of what he can do now and the incredibly high ceiling he’s working to reach. The next step on that journey comes with a repeat in mind. There’s a lot of motivation for Barrett, who is already self-motivated. He’s worth the price of admission if you have a chance to see him in person.

The 2028 offensive tackle from Iowa goes 6’8” and 305 pounds. Extremely light on his feet for his size moving well laterally. Mirrors and uses his long arms to not allow pass rushers to get in his body. Typewriter footwork and good hand placement.

I’ve written in previous Barrett evaluations that he was one of the most impactful popup prospects for me since I started working at Prep Redzone Iowa. He had me doing a double-take when seeing him starting as a freshman at left tackle for Dowling in last year’s state semifinals against rival Valley. And Barrett was winning already. He took another step forward in 2025 during the two in-person scouting opportunities I had. Some of that was natural. He’s bigger and stronger. He also improved his technique, keeping his pads down, using angles and smoothing out his footwork. Barrett is natural in pass pro, moving well laterally and operating with balance. He’s trending up as a run blocker with more power, too. With two more years of high school before college, there’s an argument for Barrett having the most potential among present Iowa high schoolers.
