A prospect already receiving some D1 interest from programs like Iowa, Iowa State and Lindenwood, La Cava also possesses the physical tools to at least get on their radar. With a unique, out-forward throwing motion that doesn’t require much backward motion — at least as its shown on his junior year tape — La Cava gets the ball out quickly and can still put some zip on it. His distinctive way of throwing the ball makes him difficult to defend when a play breaks down, as he’s able to get the ball out quickly and downfield if given an iota of time to get the ball out and to his receivers.

this fall as Dowling made their run to the 5A state championship, La Cava not only has the physical attributes he needs to be a Division I quarterback, but some of the traits that translate to success at that level.
La Cava shows the ability to hit a receiver in stride consistently. Without forcing a pass-catcher to slow down or adjust to a ball, the junior makes for a QB other skill position players love to work with. A mobile QB that can take off and run if he has to, La Cava evades evades pressure well while keeping his eyes downfield. He should be in line for a breakout senior campaign, after he completed 9-of-19 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown in garbage time this fall.

In a program flush with talent and a history of strong play at quarterback, La Cava saw time on varsity but spent much of last season developing on the junior varsity. He brings good size and a big arm to the position as we can witness when watching his sophomore highlight video. La Cava isn’t a statue, showing mobility in the pocket and creative ways to pass when under pressure. He’s athletic and quick enough to gain yards on the ground if the running lanes open up.
