Again, this is all put together to get you ready for the 2024 season. Carl Albert AT Stillwater</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Stillwater has a tough non-district slate and we could have picked the season opener against Union but we're going with this one. In week three, they'll host two-time 5A champion Carl Albert in their last tune up before district play begins. As we learned last season, Stillwater is going to test themselves with a tough non-district schedule and they went from 1-2 last year to district champs and playing for a state championship. And there's no doubt that when we look at this match-up on paper, there is star power everywhere. You have Carl Albert's roster that has five guys on our Preseason All State 1st Team and Stillwater's roster full of experienced seniors and unbelievable underclassmen talent. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>October 17th - Stillwater AT Choctaw</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It doesn't get much better than this when it comes to the 6A-2 match-ups. On a Fall Break Thursday night in week seven, Choctaw will host Stillwater in a game that could absolutely decide the district championship. The Pioneers are hungry to get back to the state championship game for the third straight season while Choctaw is looking to finish the job. The Yellowjackets have gotten very close to winning it all but are still looking to get over the final hump. Whoever wins here in week seven, as long as they win the district title will have an easier playoff path to Edmond. They'll more than likely avoid being on the same side of the bracket as Muskogee. And these two have had some memorable showdowns over the last five years. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>October 25th - Muskogee AT Sand Springs</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In week eight, defending state champion Muskogee will hit the road to face Sand Springs. Just like with the Choctaw-Stillwater match-up, it looks like this game could end up deciding the district championship. And look, other teams will definitely have a lot to say about it but going into the season, these are the top two teams in this district. Muskogee has all the tools to make another run to the state championship. They'll be tested in the regular season but it wouldn't surprise us if they come into this match-up with a perfect record. Sand Springs on the other hand will face the toughest non-district schedule of any 6A-2 team this season. So by the time week eight rolls around, the Sandites are going to be battle tested. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>November 8th - Putnam City AT Piedmont</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The first of two big games in 6A-2 on the final night of the regular season takes place here as Piedmont will host Putnam City. Look, it's August, and a lot can change between now and early November but right now, this game looks like it could make the difference between hosting a playoff game or going on the road. Maybe both end up hosting but there will be plenty of implications here as these two face off. Piedmont is moving up to Class 6A-2 after playing in one of the toughest districts in the state when they were in 5A so they'll be used to the step up in competition. Putnam City feels like a dark horse team that might be flying under the radar but could make noise in 2024.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>November 8th - Sand Springs AT Sapulpa</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The other week ten match-up to look out for is a good 'ol fashioned rivalry game. Sapulpa hosts Sand Springs as they renew their Highway 97 rivalry. And just like that Putnam City-Piedmont game, you can't tell us that this one won't have major playoff implications. The winner could actually get a first round bye depending on the standings. Sapulpa has moved back up to 6A-2 after a few years in Class 5A while the Sandites are hungry to take the next step as a program in 2024. This series has been one sided on paper, with Sand Springs winning eight in a row in the series. But when you look at the individual games, you have a lot of excitement. And with major playoff implications, this meeting won't lack excitement. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2024 SEASON OUTLOOK</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When we look ahead to the 2024 season in Class 6A-2, it feels like a situation of "the more things change, the more they stay the same" this fall. On one hand, the class does look different within the top ten. You have new teams like Sapulpa, Lawton Eisenhower, Piedmont and Southmoore all entering the class and looking to have that instant impact. But on the other hand, none of them are in the top five and those top three teams, Muskogee, Stillwater and Choctaw have all had a stranglehold on the top spots in this class ever since Bixby moved on up to Class 6A-1. Now that Deer Creek has made that move to 6A-1, there's another spot open for a team to enter contention. Could it be one of the newbies in the class or a squad like Sand Springs, who has been knocking on the door for several years now. Putnam City is another team to look out for with some of the talent they have returning on both sides of the ball. But when it comes down to it, Muskogee is the team to beat in the class because they're wearing the crown. It wasn't that long ago that Stillwater was wearing the crown and the Pioneers are definitely going to be in the mix. And for Choctaw, they've made plenty of noise in 6A-2 over the past five years. They want to finally finish the job with a gold ball. This class could end up being very competitive throughout but it's hard to imagine anyone unseating those top three teams from contending in 2024. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
