was going to be with Deer after moving there in the offseason. But Whitworth ended up back at Piedmont, where he went into his third season as a starter in the Wildcat secondary as a safety. Whitworth is going to be a very intriguing name to watch for the Wildcats this season. First off, he’s going to be one of the more experienced players in 6A-2 as he’s going into his fourth year as a starter. He’ll be a vocal leader for this Piedmont team and be an extension of the coaching staff on the field. We’ve also seen Whitworth perform really well on both sides of the ball. While he’s known for defense, don’t overlook him being a playmaker on offense.

and he did a very good job on the offensive side of the ball at wide receiver. Whitworth is an intriguing prospect for us because it was a little over a year ago that we saw him in person and he really performed well at our camp. He’s a versatile athlete that can do a little bit of everything for a team. This weekend in particular, we got a chance to watch him tear it up on the offensive side of the ball. Whitworth has really good hands and had a chance to showcase them at a high clip on Saturday afternoon. He’s going to be a prospect to keep an eye on this spring and summer.

first got on our radar around this time last year. Whitworth came to our January camp and was one of the top performers. He tested well, performed well in the drills and made a lasting impression. Last summer, it looked like Whitworth was going to be moving to Deer Creek but he ended up staying at Piedmont. Now, as we look ahead to 2024, Piedmont is moving up to 6A-2 and Whitworth has the potential to be a big player for the Wildcats. Piedmont loses a very talented and experienced senior class. That’s going to open up the door for Whitworth to become a serious playmaker on both sides of the ball.

on the defensive side of the ball. Now, a few months ago, we wrote about Whitworth in our Deer Creek Team Preview because the two-way player had moved. But last week, Whitworth announced that he moved back to Piedmont and was rejoining the Wildcats. That’s going to give Piedmont another playmaker on both sides of the ball. But when it comes to this week’s showdown with El Reno, Whitworth will have to watch from the sidelines as he had to sit out the season opener against Noble last week and this week before he can take the field for the first time on September 8th. Whitworth really impressed us in person at our camp back in January and on film from last season. When he gets on the field, he’ll be a game changer.

is a 2025 prospect that we’re really looking forward to watching this season. Last year, he had a fantastic sophomore campaign with Piedmont as a wide receiver and defensive back. While it’s unclear to us what his role is going to be with the Antlers, we know that he’s going to provide some playmaking ability when needed on offense and then some outstanding defensive help in the secondary. One of the bigger question marks with the Antlers coming into this season surrounded how they replaced some of the talent they lost in the secondary. Whitworth could be the answer to that question. He put up big numbers last season, was an impact player and has had a really strong offseason as he moves on to his new school.

We stay in the Oklahoma City area with our next newcomer to the rankings. Anytime we do a ranking update, there are always a few players that we immediately regret not having in the update. Either we hadn’t seen them yet or simply forgot to add them and Deer Creek standout

is a perfect example of that. Whitworth should have been in the update back in January as he is a defensive back that we think has a very high upside. Last season, with Piedmont, Whitworth was a hard-hitting safety that did a really good job in pass coverage as well. Whitworth also stood out and tested incredibly well at our camp back in January. Now at Deer Creek, we think Whitworth could open up more eyes as the Antlers need him in the secondary.

Last month, we updated our prospect rankings for the 2023-2026 classes. Every time we do a ranking update, it doesn’t take long to figure out that we missed a prospect or two.

is an example of a 2025 prospect that should have been included in the last update. As a sophomore at Piedmont, Whitworth was outstanding at the safety position and also showed signs of being a really good athlete at the wide receiver spot on offense. But with Piedmont’s option-heavy offense, he didn’t get very many opportunities at wide receiver. The ones that he did get, he seemed to make the most of. But on defense, Whitworth was a special talent. He was an absolute ball hawk in the secondary for Piedmont as his eyes and instincts helped put him in the right spot in a lot of situations last season. And Whitworth and Piedmont went up against some pretty good quarterbacks and passing offenses. Moving forward, it’s going to be interesting to see how Whitworth looks. He’s moved from Piedmont to Deer Creek and while we really like him at safety, we want to see what he can do with an expanded role at wide receiver.
