Mason was all over the field for Piedmont as a high motor defensive playmaker. His crowning achievement was a strip sack in the second quarter. He timed the snap perfectly off the edge, ran the QB down from behind and knocked it loose. Which led to a scoop and score for a teammate. Simply gets down hill, gets off blocks and makes plays. Also had an impressive one v one tackle in the flats on a RB swing pass. Should easily clear 100 tackles this season, with quite a few of them also coming behind the line of scrimmage.

Gavin continued to show his dominance at linebacker. His versatility, instincts, physicality, and ability to diagnose plays quickly allowed him to consistently make an impact throughout the camp. He showcased great awareness, tackling ability, and the toughness needed to excel at the position. Gavin also picked up an offer from the Mustang.

2027 linebacker Gavin Mason Gavin Mason 6'1" | 200 lbs | LB/ATH Piedmont | 2027 State OK is coming off a breakout season last year, finishing his junior season with just shy of 100 tackles and he was a guy that could constantly be found in the opposing team’s backfield. He finished with nearly 20 tackles for loss. Simply put, Mason was a heat-seeking missile at the linebacker position and found a way to be incredibly impactful. Similar to Backus, we didn’t know much about Mason prior to last season but he became one of the linebackers to know in this class moving forward. As we’ve mentioned already, we really like the personnel that Piedmont brings back in their front seven and Mason might be the most productive of the group.
