About Moses
Expert Analysis
Connor Jackson | Prep Redzone Scout
Poku-Kankam is a traitsy, big body defender who will project as an LB long-term. He was one of the most noteworthy prospects in attendance, loaded with FBS and P4 offers. All tournament long, he did the dirty work that often doesn’t show up in the stat sheet, using his frame and length to clog up passing windows and take reads away from the QB. It’s just obvious by looking at him and watching him move that he is different. He is a massive player with DB movement skills, which is why he is generating P4 buzz as a LB prospect.

Moses can play almost anywhere on defense for a program, and that versatility and talent have him #4 in our rankings here. Moses has excellent size and moves very fluidly for a defensive back/linebacker/strong safety prospect. I wrote about Moses in detail recently, but he’s got a lot of recruiting interest from college football programs. Most recently, Moses received an offer from Rutgers and has standing offers from multiple Division 1 college football programs.

I don’t usually use the term “defensive wild card” very often, but that’s what I see when I look at Moses’ highlight film from the state champion Chargers. Excellent size at 6’3 and 210 pounds gets college coaches interested, then when you see the speed and explosion on the tape, that entices them to offer this talented young man. Last season, he totaled 65 tackles with 32 solo tackles, 9 pass deflections, and even contributed on special teams with two field goal blocks. His most recent offers are from Louisville, East Carolina, Toledo, and Wake Forest. He could play as a linebacker or defensive back at the next level and really excel.

We may ultimately decide whether Poku-Kankam is a safety, a linebacker, or something else entirely later this offseason, but we’re keeping our options open right now. He’s an impactful special-teamer, as well, with multiple blocked kicks as a junior. He has length, size, speed, and physicality, and he should have a huge senior year. I’ll be interested to see to which position he’s recruited most heavily by major college teams.

Poku-Kankam is a versatile defender with elite athleticism. He’s not as much a two-way athlete as he is a guy who could arguably play about six or seven roles defensively. Colleges have different plans for how to use him, either as a linebacker, a box safety, or even as a versatile slot defender. His change-of-direction and play strength are among the best in the class.

An extremely explosive athlete, the 6’2″ Poku-Kankam is hovering on the edge of the Group of Five/Power Four level in terms of offers. We’re higher on him though, convinced he’s a future Power Four starter. Primarily a defensive back, the Providence Day star plays a ton of different positions on the defensive side of the ball, leaning more toward positionless weapon than a guy who is limited to one spot. I love that and think he could grow into a big slot corner or outside linebacker.

Moses comes from a talented family and continues the tradition of talented players at Providence Day with his introduction to our 2027 rankings. We have him listed as an Athlete but this past season Moses really shined on the defensive side of the football as a hybrid safety/outside linebacker. Moses plays both zone and man coverage concepts well and attacks the ball aggressively in the air. Moses also does a good job in the running game, not letting plays get outside, and tackles well in space. Moses currently has offers from Miami (Ohio), Virginia Tech, and Syracuse.
