Expert Analysis
Matt Morrow | Prep Redzone Scout
Griff made the #1 in my rankings here because I think he’s the most complete player right now as far as being able to both defend the run and rush the passer consistently from his defensive line spot. It’s a razor-thin margin when you get to high-level talent as we have in the Top 5 of this list here, and even going deeper. Charlotte is really blessed with talented defensive linemen! From a recruiting perspective, Griff has recently received offers from Stanford, Charlotte, Miami, Clemson, and Louisville within the last two months.

We’ve written a lot about Griff over the past couple of years because of his high-level play for the Chargers program and dominance at the line of scrimmage against offensive linemen. College football programs have taken notice as well, with offers from Charlotte, Miami, Clemson, and Louisville all coming just in January for Griff. I like Griff’s 3-down ability – he’s strong against the run and sets the edge well, along with showing the ability to get to the quarterback in passing situations.

At one point the top overall player in the 2027 class, Galloway continues to quietly impress us, even if the sack numbers don’t jump off the page. He’s probably the best run-stopper on the edge in the state, regardless of class. He’s a developing pass-rusher and the tools are there, as he has a nice mix of quickness and power. In 2027, his bend improved, and he’s a guy we could see continuing to creep up the rankings.

Top prospects have the tendency to stay out of the spotlight on a loaded Providence Day team that often rests its starters in the second half of blowouts. But Galloway’s impact goes beyond the stats. He’s an elite run-stopper off the edge, and stepped up as a pass-rusher in 2025. One of the stronger pound-for-pound prospects in the class,

Galloway had a “down year” in terms of sack numbers as a sophomore, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have elite potential. He’s in the middle of a potential move to the inside, simply because he keeps getting bigger. He’s never been a guy who relies on pure speed off the edge, preferring to power past offensive linemen with an array of pass-rushing moves and you’d be hard-pressed to find a better run defender on the edge.

I personally like Galloway’s upside most as a twitchy edge rusher, but he has slightly below average length at the position and could end up spending more time at tight end. If he does stick on the defensive side of the ball, he has great pass-rushing upside thanks to a strong first step and good strength at the point of attack.
