Expert Analysis
Matt Morrow | Prep Redzone Scout
Caleb is another high-level prospect who has seen his recruiting really take off. He is also starting to take visits to college football programs, with the most recent being to Tennessee. Before that, Caleb visited Kentucky and Florida. Coming up will be visits to Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, and Ohio State. Caleb was a first-team All-Conference and All-State selection for his play last season, producing 97 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and an interception on the year. Caleb’s athleticism allows him to impact all three levels of the defense. I’ve got him in the athlete category because I’ve seen him play running back, and I think he would be a high-level recruit at that position, also if he needed to play it for the Chargers.

While Caleb’s work this season was heavy on the defensive side of things, I have seen him look strong with the ball in his hands as a running back in the past, so much so that I thought he could have a future on offense if that’s something he wanted to pursue. That being said, he’s doing pretty well as a defensive back. This past season, Caleb had 97 tackles, 6 pass deflections, 5 tackles for loss, and an interception for the state champion Chargers. Caleb was named 1st team All-Conference and All-State, along with a number of well-deserved accolades. Given all that success, Caleb has been on fire on the recruiting trail recently, picking up offers from Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Charlotte, Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida, and Old Dominion since early January! Out of all the things to like about Caleb’s game, it’s how well he tackles in space that really impresses me the most.

Cooper played more defense than offense as a junior, also excelling as a kick returner, as well. Like several of his Providence Day teammates, Cooper’s position was fluid defensively, and he has highlights in single-high coverage and as a box safety/linebacker. He’s probably a defender at the next level, but he’s versatile enough to play multiple spots.

Cooper contributed in every phase of the game for Providence Day last season, returning kicks and punts, getting run in the backfield, and playing excellent defense as a safety. He’s likely college-bound as a defensive back, but I’m not quite ready to move him to that position yet. Still, he’s talented enough to make game-changing plays from multiple alignments and impacts the game in every phase.

Caleb has shown some impressive skills both as a running back as well as a defender for the Chargers. Coming into this season, we should see more from Caleb as a back where he has a nice speed/power game with the football in his hands. I love Caleb’s contact balance and his ability to run through weak.tackle attempts at 2nd and 3rd levels of the defense. Caleb also shows some ability to tackle well on defense, and also come down and cover slot receivers as an outside linebacker/safety hybrid type of player. Caleb has a lot of Power 4 offers from a recruiting perspective and is on his way to becoming another major recruit for a talented Providence Day program.
