Cherry is one of a few impressive prospects on Providence Day’s elite offensive line, but one of the least heralded. He’s seen by a lot of the local FCS schools as an offer candidate, though he hasn’t quite broken through on the recruiting trail. A strong senior season at center could change that, and he’s a guy I’m watching closely this season.

Cherry just put together a fantastic season for Providence Day as the Chargers rolled to an undefeated year. Cherry really improved his game as a junior, showing that our previous belief that he’s a Division II prospect was probably wrong. He’s bigger, stronger, and quicker, giving him clear FCS potential at center or guard.

Cherry may not have the prototypical height of some other linemen, but he makes up for it with power, leverage, and technical consistency. Anchoring the line for one of the state’s top private programs, he brings toughness in the run game and reliability in pass protection. Cherry plays with a low center of gravity that gives him an edge at the point of attack, allowing him to win battles against bigger defenders.

Nick is coming into his first year at Providence Day, having played previously for Cannon School in Concord. Nick was selected as an All-Conference player last season and has good collegiate size for a center, which bodes well for him from a recruiting perspective. Nick received his first offer a couple of weeks ago from West Virginia State University. Nick is also a talented wrestler, which always helps offensive linemen overall. Nick does a very good job of snapping and stepping with force on shaded techniques in the running game – he loves to be nasty and drive defensive linemen for several yards. Nick is strong in pass protection, not allowing upfield penetration to defensive tackles in solo pass protection. He is a talented player who should have more offers coming his way.
