About Nick

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

As a center, I take pride and being the smartest lineman on the field. I am aggressive in the run fit, and move defenders to the second level, and in the past fit, I would do anything to protect the qb.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Winning is at the core of everything I do, every rep my main goal is to win that rep whether that be opening up a gap or taking a nose guard one on one in pass pro.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am on honor council, I also own my own business and have received multiple leadership awards.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am a team leader, I take pride and being a leader on the office of line, picking up players win a missed step happens, and I feel my leadership is developing to be the best player I can be every year.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Cherry really improved his game as a junior, showing that our previous belief that he’s a Division II prospect was probably wrong. He’s bigger, stronger, and quicker, giving him clear FCS potential at center or guard.

Cherry may not have the prototypical height of some other linemen, but he makes up for it with power, leverage, and technical consistency. Anchoring the line for one of the state’s top private programs, he brings toughness in the run game and reliability in pass protection. Cherry plays with a low center of gravity that gives him an edge at the point of attack, allowing him to win battles against bigger defenders.

Nick is coming into his first year at Providence Day, having played previously for Cannon School in Concord. Nick was selected as an All-Conference player last season and has good collegiate size for a center, which bodes well for him from a recruiting perspective. Nick received his first offer a couple of weeks ago from West Virginia State University. Nick is also a talented wrestler, which always helps offensive linemen overall. Nick does a very good job of snapping and stepping with force on shaded techniques in the running game – he loves to be nasty and drive defensive linemen for several yards. Nick is strong in pass protection, not allowing upfield penetration to defensive tackles in solo pass protection. He is a talented player who should have more offers coming his way.
