VILLA PARK VS. WESTERN

Villa Park edged Carson on a rushing touchdown from quarterback Vinny La Gatta in the final minute of the game last week. Coy Collins had a long rushing touchdown for the Spartans and Parker Johns had a big fumble recovery.

Western did it all offensively in a 34-31 win over Salesian. [player_tooltip player_id='1197380' first='Chance' last='Thomas'] threw for 232 yards with three touchdowns for the Pioneers and UNLV commit [player_tooltip player_id='212234' first='Skylar' last='Lendsey'] ran for 111 yards with a touchdown. [player_tooltip player_id='1361628' first='Max' last='Young'] caught seven passes for 119 yards with a score and Lendsey had 66 yards receiving. [player_tooltip player_id='780334' first='Ose' last='Enosegbe'] had an interception to lead the defense. Western has more talent in the skill positions, but Villa Park is always very good in the trenches.

MURRIETA MESA VS. VISTA MURRIETA

Murrieta Mesa played a physical, tight game last week against Newport Harbor and came out on top 33-27. Coleman Jones threw two touchdown passes and Daniel Ritchie added a rushing touchdown. The defense struggled but [player_tooltip player_id='1698882' first='Jesse' last='Wilhite'] is very good in pass coverage and Gabe Morin can get after the quarterback.

Vista Murrieta has dominated this matchup including a 42-9 win last year. The Broncos scored 49 points in a win over Great Oak last week. [player_tooltip player_id='1000959' first='Bryson' last='Beaver'] threw for 297 yards with two touchdowns and Damarii Booth ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns. [player_tooltip player_id='780348' first='Tyler' last='Caldwell'] led the Broncos in receiving with 128 yards on eight catches with a touchdown and Brock Norman had a touchdown catch. [player_tooltip player_id='1607755' first='Joshua' last='Baker'] had an interception on defense for Vista Murrieta.

ST. BONAVENTURE VS. BIRMINGHAM

Birmingham is the top team in the LA City Section and always challenges itself against good teams from the Southern Section. The Patriots beat Hart 24-14 last week and Kevin Hawkins ran for 130 yards with a touchdown. Hawkins also completed 4 of 5 passes with a touchdown. Jimmy Renteria had a touchdown catch for Birmingham.

St. Bonaventure beat St. Francis 19-7 last week. Jayce Franco ran for 118 yards and [player_tooltip player_id='1183006' first='Jeremiah' last='Barrios'] ran for a score. Matthew Perez blocked a field goal and had four hurries for the Seraphs. St. Bonaventure struggled to move the ball through the air last week, but I think they have the superior linemen in this one.

VALENCIA VS. CHAMINADE

Chaminade had one of the more surprising dominant wins last week in a 42-27 win over Oaks Christian. [player_tooltip player_id='1698902' first='Marquis' last='Jones'] had a very good day running the ball with 121 yards and two touchdowns for Chaminade and [player_tooltip player_id='1611412' first='Cameron' last='Pooley'] threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Chaminade's defense gave up a lot of yardage but didn't break too much. Michael Bonnet had three sacks for the Eagles.

Valencia cruised to a 28-7 win over Simi Valley in week zero. [player_tooltip player_id='401221' first='Brady' last='Bretthauer'] threw for 143 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 172 yards with a touchdown. Elias Holloway and Rocco Testa each had interceptions for Valencia's defense. Valencia will need another big game out of Bretthauer and running back [player_tooltip player_id='1182930' first='Brian' last='Bonner'] in order to beat a strong Chaminade team.

LA COSTA CANYON VS. MOUNT MIGUEL

Mount Miguel's defense was excellent in a close win over a good San Marcos team.

La Costa Canyon looked sharp in its blowout win over St. Augustine. [player_tooltip player_id='1598369' first='Coby' last='Herman'] had multiple rushing touchdowns and returned a kick for a touchdown. [player_tooltip player_id='401286' first='Quinn' last='Roth'] threw an early touchdown pass to Jackson Maggiore.

MURRIETA VALLEY VS. SERVITE

Servite struggled on both sides of the ball in its week zero loss to Centennial. The Friars allowed 551 yards of offense and had just 179 yards of offense themselves. [player_tooltip player_id='1742104' first='Jorden' last='Wells'] had a decent game running the ball and Gavin Gutierrez had a nice receiving day. Saxon Churchwell led Servite in tackles and Savelino Taliauli had three tackles for a loss with two forced fumbles.

Murrieta Valley edged a good Rancho Cucamonga team 28-26 last week. [player_tooltip player_id='1717673' first='Ty' last='Isaia'] threw two touchdown passes and [player_tooltip player_id='401237' first='Derrick' last='Johnson II'] had 106 yards receiving with a touchdown. Abelardo Leos and Josiah Anyesi each had two sacks and Joseph Rodriguez recovered two fumbles. This game should be much more competitive for Servite, but I need to see them put together a good offensive game.
