2025 George Washington RB [player_tooltip player_id='907163' first='Sai'Vyon' last='Brown'] debuted his senior season with a bang rushing for 193 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Patriots' 39-0 shutout of St. Albans. We said in our team preview earlier this summer that Brown was poised for a breakout year with the Patriots searching for a running back to step up this season and he delivered that in a big way. He showed great footwork and vision behind the line of scrimmage and choosing his running lanes. Brown also broke tackles and made defenders miss at a high level throughout the game. We were impressed with how hard he ran the ball fighting for extra yards and giving maximum effort on every carry which combined with his impressive stat line earned him the PRZ WV Offensive Player of the Week in week one.

2026 Wheeling Park TE/LB [player_tooltip player_id='908990' first='Jameson' last='Maynard'] impacted the game on both sides of the ball for the Patriots in their week one opening victory over Parkersburg South. Maynard caught 6 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown on offense but earned the PRZ WV Defensive Player of the Week with his 17 tackles, 3TFLs, and an interception performance on defense. Maynard could be a big-time stock riser after the season in our 2025 rankings where he's already ranked just outside of the Top 10 linebackers in the state. Maynard was all over the field Friday night and disrupted the typically explosive South offense from his middle linebacker spot while creating matchup issues on offense at TE.

He was dynamic with his arm and his legs proving he was one of the best athletes on the field Friday night and a Top 5 player in his class. Vellaithmabi looked poised in the pocket like the seasoned veteran that he is and was very efficient passing and running the ball making every attempt count.
Huntington is happy to have former George Washington running back [player_tooltip player_id='450988' first='Keegan' last='Sack'] this season as he was very much needed in their close 38-35 win over Hurricane. The Highlanders leaned on him heavily to eke out an opening-week win with 27 carries for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns. Known for his speed and athleticism, Sack's strength and power are what stood out the most on film as he ran hard between the tackles and fought for extra yards in a game where every inch mattered. He may see a significant increase in carries this season compared to last and Sack looks to have the size and strength to take on that extra load for his new program.

After some roster turnover from last season, the Patriots needed a new face to step up at running back for 2024 and Wack obliged the challenge by moving over from receiver. He made our 2026 Top 150 at WR but has already neared his offensive production from 2023 in just one game. Wilson saw snaps at quarterback during portions of the game out of necessity and made an impact in a variety of ways to help the Highlanders pull out a hard-fought win over a very talented Redskins team. The #1 ranked 2026 prospect got on the board first with a heads-up fumble recovery on the Hurricane goal line from his own teammate and turned the corner for the touchdown. Wilson also did what he's best at with a receiving touchdown on a deep corner route. The biggest play of the night however, came on the final play of the game when Wilson crashed the left side of the Hurricane field goal team and got his hands on the potential game-tying attempt to secure the 38-35 victory for Huntington.

It appears Ferrell will be playing safety this season which we had a hunch may be his best position with a high ceiling for that spot. He has a lot of length and speed to play on the backend of the defense and should thrive more there compared to corner. If week one is a glimpse into what's to come for Ferrell this season, he's primed for a huge senior year. Ferrell made his mark on defense as well on a 77-yard deep post which saw him beat the St. Albans' defenders by five yards over the top and outrace them to the endzone.

Huntington at Martinsburg

There isn't a bigger game in West Virginia in week two than when Huntington makes the long trip to Martinsburg to take on the defending state-champion Bulldogs. These two stellar programs have had a nice back-and-forth the past few years with some big-time matchups in big games but will now meet during the regular season. Huntington will look to avenge their playoff semifinal loss from last season before Martinsburg inevitably secured their 10th state championship title. Huntington beat the Bulldogs in the championship in 2022 and vice versa in 2021. The 2024 version of this game will tell us a lot about the landscape of the new Class AAAA and who the early leader in the state is this season. Although we picked Huntington to defeat Martinsburg in our team preview earlier this summer, with potential quarterback injury concerns for the Highlanders, Martinsburg appears to be the favorite early on. Don't be surprised if this is only the first meeting between the two this season though.
