2024 WV Team Preview: Hurricane Redskins

They'll face a gauntlet of a schedule that features the potentially top three teams in the state and will have to travel to Michigan in week four along with other solid MSAC squads. Hurricane has the personnel to win some of these big games and compete with the elite schools on their schedule with D1 prospects still on the roster. Dues totaled 1,200 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior last season and will be in contention for the Randy Moss Award during his senior year. Dues will give the Redskins great snaps in all three phases of the game and excels at any spot he lines up in. He's an impressive deep-play threat with unmatched speed and quickness, making him nearly impossible to cover for WV DBs. Dues has a great burst and release off the line and is consistently open within the first five yards of his routes. He showed off his athletic versatility in a huge way as a junior rushing for 1,400 yards and 19 touchdowns Vellaithambi is the true definition of an ATH prospect who can also play defensive back but don't let that mistake you into thinking he doesn't have the arm talent to play quarterback at the D1 level either. He made his commitment to Marshall in June and is a versatile athlete for the position. While more known for his blocking ability to this point, McGrew showed evidence of developing into a quality pass-catcher as well last season and at our PRZ WV Combine this year. He's a physically built athlete and an imposing blocker which aided the Redskins' dynamic running game last season. He's a long and athletic big man with a ton of potential and upside who doubles as a standout basketball player for the Redskins too. Hampton is a rangy defensive end and sets the edge well with his long wingspan and length. The more he grows into his frame the higher his ceiling will get which is already very high. We got to see him up close at our PRZ WV Combine earlier this year where he earned OL Top Performer honors and you could see why Marshall is betting on him to develop into a future D1 college starter. Lanham is an athletic big man who has grown into his body well over the past few years and has put himself in a position to be a D1-level prospect. He's a physical player on the field which paired with his footwork and quickness makes him a well-rounded guard. He's caught the eye of colleges heading into his final year as WV State extended Quijano his first offer last month. Quijano was an All-MSAC performer last season and will be in contention for more post season accolades with a strong senior season. While a bit undersized at 5'10 205, Quijano is a physical downhill middle linebacker and plays the position how you'd want it to be played. He shoots gaps well and has willingness to be physical at the line of scrimmage. He's a bigger-bodied linebacker at 6'1 225 with Edge/DE potential which he's done in the past. Production was limited last season in his first year in the program, but Wilfong has the talent to showcase his abilities more this season as a senior. With another strong year, Chill will undoubtedly be a big stock riser in our final rankings after the season and is poised to earn serious college attention as a senior. He recently had a strong performance at one of WVU's camps and should put it all together this season for the Redskins. Chill is a big athlete at 6'3 250 who will likely play in the defensive interior at the next level but is very athletic for his size. Brown saw spot duty as a junior as the Redskins had a loaded OL group but was a talented player in his own right. He's picked up offers from WV State and Rio Grande (OH) this summer as momentum builds for his senior year. His body will keep developing over the next few years but once he reaches his full potential in time the patience will pay off for a college program. After some shakeup in the state with players transferring elsewhere, Grace is on the fast track to that #1 spot and was a Top Performer at our PRZ WV Combine this year. He'll also benefit from Vellaithmabi moving back to quarterback and is in a position to be the Redksins' workhorse this season after providing very good #2 reps as a sophomore. Grace still managed to rush for 500 yards and 8 touchdowns backing up Vellaithambi and could go over 1,000 yards as a junior. He's been a standout on the Redskins' JV team the past two years and should be ready to contribute on a bigger level at the varsity level this season. Burnette's potential is what has kept him inside of the 2026 Top 50 even has a primarily JV player to this point but our hunch about him will likely be proved to be correct this season. He's another great body type and impressive-looking young athlete with a ton of potential which may be realized this season. Gregory saw some spot duty on the varsity team as a sophomore, but after some movement from last year's team, he's in a position to split time with Grace as the second part of their potential 1-2 punch.
