RETURNING STANDOUT
2027 Hurricane LB/EDGE Devon Short enters his senior season as the leader of the Redskins and the tone-setter for their defense. A multi-year starter and Second Team All-MSAC selection as a junior, Short gives Hurricane a proven player who can impact the game from multiple spots along the front seven. His experience and production will be counted on as the Redskins look to turn last year’s valuable lessons into more competitive football this fall. A strong senior campaign should also put Short firmly in the conversation for All-State honors while drawing increased attention from college programs.

. He posted 34 tackles and 4 sacks as a sophomore for the Redskins and will be counted on heavily this season. Short is a good candidate to move to EDGE in our rankings in the future, and he has steadily grown into his body. He has the size and athleticism coming off the edge to be a top EDGE prospect in the 2027 class.

. We loved the style of play Short plays with and is an aggressive young linebacker for the Redskins. He’s a very good downhill tackler and shoots the gaps quickly while making a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage. Short has good pursuit speed and can play in the open field combined with his between-the-tackles ability. Short can also rush the passer as an outside linebacker with middle linebacker versatility as well. At 6’0 200, Short has the early size needed for the position and the athleticism to pair with to develop into a high-level LB prospect in time.
The 2027 linebacker class is shaping up to be a very good one with Short being in the early running to finish as one of the best in the class.

saw some varsity action for the Redskins during his freshman season and is a name to follow for the next three years. Short has early size for the position at 6’0 195 and totaled 18 tackles, 4 TFLs, and 1.5 sacks this season. I liked the level of physicality he played with as a young linebacker with apparent athleticism to match it. Short gets downhill quickly while shooting gaps hard with bad intent. He’s a sure tackler who can do so in space and behind or at the line of scrimmage. Short flashed quality pursuit speed and the ability to blitz from his middle linebacker position as well. Hurricane will return a stable of talented linebackers in 2024, but I believe Short has put himself in a position to see an increase in varsity action and a bigger role as a sophomore next season.
