Expert Analysis
Matt Tate | Prep Redzone Scout
Heimlicher is currently recovering from a surgery, and didn’t work out, however that didn’t stop him from coming in early to learn. Measuring in at 6’4 230-pounds, he was bruising force on the edge for Creek last year. He had 72 total tackles (30 solo, 42 assisted), 11 TFL, 7 sacks, and 1 INT. Very good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, lateral quickness, change of direction, and good speed. Very good strength, hand strength, and hand placement. Heimlicher has very good initial quickness out of his stance, with very good hand speed. Very good bend around the edge showing off his flexibility. Very good get off speed and block shedding. Very good tackling and won’t stop till the ball carrier is in his grasp in the backfield. Relentless pursuit. He just received his first offer from Penn, and I believe this is the first of many for a rising edge rusher.

Heimlicher first came on my radar when he won MVP during one of our combine events. Measures in at 6’3 218 pounds, and is a monster in the trenches. Very good athletic ability due to very good acceleration ,speed, lateral agility, and good jumping. Colton has a very good initial quickness out of his stance. He goes into a low pad level engaging with the OL first. Very good hand strength and hand placement to control his opponent. Heimlicher demonstrates very good strength at the point of attack, and drives the OL backwards. He’s a good block shedding with good get off speed. Also productive in the pass rush with his powerful bull rush. One thing of note about Heimlicher is his relentless pursuit. He doesn’t give up until the play is finished or his opponent is in his grasp. Keep an eye on him going into this season.

Winning the DL MVP, Colton showed his good attitude and technique throughout camp. Colton has very good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, speed, and lateral agility. He has a quick twitch to him. During the L-drill, he showed his shifty feet and good balance. He gets a low pad level then uses his very good hand strength and hand placement to control and steer his opponent out of the way. One thing of note was his competitive toughness. He showed relentless effort, never giving up on plays. He was attentive during the coaching, and added some techniques during the individual time. Watch out for Heimlicher as I believe this is just the beginning.

Heimlicher earned the Defensive Line MVP by dominating throughout the event. Heimlicher was aggressive with his hands, consistently shedding blocks and disrupting plays in the backfield. With a quick first step, he kept a low base and overwhelmed offensive linemen before they could react. Now transferring to Cherry Creek, it will be exciting to watch how he fits into their system.

Colton is quickly making a name for himself in the class of 2027. He has a big 6’3 frame that can be impossible to defend when he is out on routes. With him being a big play machine, he is going to be a huge piece of whatever offense he joins in the future. If he continues to follow this trajectory, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him follow the same path as his brother, who plays defensive end at UCLA.

Fresh out of the Box State, Heimlicher looks poised to be the next big time Tight End/Defensive End out of Colorado. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder is the younger brother of Jake Heimlicher who starred at Regis Jesuit High School before earning All-American honors at UPenn, and is now at UCLA, as a Defensive End. The younger Heimlicher looks to be cut from the same mold as as his older brother and played a huge role in his 303 Legends team winning an AYF National Title.

-Did not know of him before AYF Nationals and am very glad I got to see him play live in a few games because he’s a playmaker
-The younger brother of former University of Pennsylvania, now UCLA Bruin Defensive End Jake Heimlicher. At 6-foot-3, “little” brother had a knack for getting it done on both sides of the ball
-I feel he specifically shined at Tight End while in Florida, hauling in multiple touchdown passes and chain-moving grabs in the games I watched
