Expert Analysis
Robert Davis | Prep Redzone Scout
Irving brings versatility to the Bruins’ defense, with the skill set to cover in the slot or drop into the box to stuff the run. His quick feet and smooth transitions in coverage allow him to mirror receivers and break on the football. Irving’s physicality makes him great against the run, where he can diagnose plays and close gaps quickly. In nickel packages, his ability to handle both coverage and flying up to fill gaps adds flexibility to Cherry Creek’s defensive schemes. Week 1 offers Irving the opportunity to make his presence felt early and cement himself as one of the program’s emerging impact players.

Irving is a fascinating prospect for Cherry Creek. He’s listed as a wide receiver; however, he has many different roles on the offense. He will line up in the slot, in the backfield, or as a full back. Irving was consistently used as a lead blocker for the running back or wide receiver. He had 29 receptions for 271 yards and 3 touchdowns. Irving has very good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, speed, and change of direction. He has lengthy arms to come down with the catch, and demonstrated good ball tracking skills. He excels as a blocker. Leading the way for the ball carrier, Irving will either pancake a defender or throw them down with ease. Irving has very good hand placement to control and steer the defender away. Irving does a lot of dirty work for Cherry Creek, and deserves some more recognition.
