We’re still in early September, but Heritage Hall senior quarterback Andy Bass Andy Bass 6’0″ | 195 lbs | ATH Heritage Hall | 2024 State OK is clearly one of the best players in the state and that’s evident after the first few weeks. The Chargers found themselves in a shootout with Clinton but Bass would not be denied as Heritage Hall avenged their only loss last season. Bass threw for over 350 yards and five touchdowns on 15-20 passing. He also added over 100 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. And he did all of this while missing the second quarter with a thumb injury. When the OU running back commit was on the field, the Chargers could not be stopped
Highlights
Moore senior running back Cam Hayes Cam Hayes 5’11” | RB Moore | 2024 OK had a solid night as the Lions would stun Norman in the final minute. He ran for over 150 yards and two touchdowns but it was the last time he touched the ball that earns him a spot on this breakdown. The Lions scored in the final minute to make it 42-41 in favor of Norman. Instead of kicking the PAT and playing for overtime, the Lions handed the ball to Hayes and he would score the game-winning two-point conversion. Moore is off to a 3-0 start this fall and their offense has been clicking on all cylinders. They’ll look to continue that as they head into district play.
On Thursday night, Choctaw returned to the field for the first time since the shooting incident ended their week zero game with Del City. The Yellowjackets immediately made up for lost time as junior quarterback Cash Williams Cash Williams 6’1″ | 205 lbs | ATH Choctaw | 2025 State OK scored on a 75-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage. That would be the first of several big plays from Williams on Thursday night. He finished with just over 100 passing yards and then added nearly 200 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdowns. And his passing yards could be different because there were a few passes that were toss ups on forward or backwards.
Edmond North senior running back Dev Mathews Dev Mathews 6’0″ | RB Edmond North | 2024 State OK is near the top of the list when we looked at the very best performances in week two. The Huskies put up over 50 points as they beat rival Edmond Memorial on Friday night. Mathews would set a few school records as he could not be stopped in the win. He ran for 377 yards and six touchdowns on 35 carries. What’s really impressive about what Mathews did is where he was the first few weeks. Mathews had to miss time in their first two games while dealing with cramps. But on Friday, he was ready for a massive workload with 35 carries and he produced at a high level.
Claremore jumped into the top ten in Class 5A after knocking off Bartlesville in week one. In week two, they found themselves in a shootout with Oologah but the Zebras had too much firepower on offense to be contained. Wide receiver Gage Deckard Gage Deckard 6’1″ | 175 lbs | WR Claremore | 2024 State OK finished the game with 260 yards receiving and four touchdowns on just seven catches. The Claremore passing attack was on fire on Friday and despite Oologah putting up a lot of points, they weren’t going to be able to keep up with Deckard and the Zebras. We knew Claremore was going to be a dark horse to watch in 5A this season but they are off to a hot start.

2A’s top-ranked and defending champion Washington faced off with Jones in a rematch of last year’s semifinal round. The Warriors continued their dominance against other ranked teams early on in the season as they rolled to a victory. Junior running back Hudson Howard Hudson Howard 5’9″ | 180 lbs | RB Washington | 2025 State OK had another strong performance in the victory. He finished with nearly 150 yards and five touchdowns but the Longhorns made him work for everything he got on Friday. We’ve mentioned a few times already how Howard was a player to watch this fall as he tried to replace Cole Scott from last year’s title team. There hasn’t been a drop off with Howard toting the rock.

Class A’s defending champion Fairview is off to a 3-0 start and junior quarterback Jax Bernard Jax Bernard 5’11” | 170 lbs | QB Fairview | 2025 State OK has been tough to contain so far this season. Bernard put up some strong numbers as a sophomore as he led them to a state championship. But this season, he’s taking his game to new heights in the passing and running game. On Friday, Bernard threw for just over 300 yards and four touchdowns on 30-41 passing. He also added nearly 100 yards and a touchdown on the ground on 13 carries. Bernard has put up some monster numbers so far this season and we’re not sure anyone is going to be able to contain him this fall.
On Friday night, there was a highly anticipated match-up in Muskogee as the 6A-2 #1 Roughers hosted 5A’s #1 Carl Albert. And in the rare 1 VS 1 match-up, it was Carl Albert prevailing behind a stellar performance from OU commit Kevin Sperry Kevin Sperry 6’2″ | 190 lbs | QB Denton Guyer | 2025 TX at quarterback. Sperry would throw for nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns on 15-19 passing. He also showed off that he can tuck the ball and run as he finished with over 50 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Sperry finished the game with 10 consecutive completions as he showcased his accuracy against a tough Muskogee defense on Friday.
Out in western Oklahoma, Weatherford got a big win over an El Reno team that was ranked in Class 5A. The Eagles have won two games in a row after falling to 4A’s #5 Newcastle in week zero. Junior quarterback Stone Chism Stone Chism 6’3″ | 220 lbs | ATH Weatherford | 2025 State OK carried the Eagles to the win on Friday night. He ran for four touchdowns on the night but the final touchdown was the most important as he ran it in with just under 30 seconds to play to clinch the 28-26 victory on Friday night. Chism and the Eagles now shift their focus to another 5A ranked team. Elgin comes to town on Friday and they’ll provide the toughest test yet this season.
In another high-scoring affair, Locust Grove would outlast Adair and sophomore quarterback Titan Hix Titan Hix 6’3″ | 210 lbs | QB Locust Grove | 2026 State OK gave us a reminder of just how dynamic he can be on the offensive side of the ball. Last season, Hix was one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the state and he had another good performance in week two. He threw for nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns while also adding well over 100 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Hix was the top option in the running game as he finished with an eye-opening 29 carries on the night. Hix is going to keep Locust Grove in a lot of games this season.
