was the breakout star for the Warriors last season. Washington needed a new running back to step up in 2023 and Howard answered that call immediately. Howard would finish his junior season with over 1,700 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground. In the very first game of the season, he had nearly 200 yards and four touchdowns on less than ten carries. It was clear that Howard was going to be a playmaker for the Washington offense. As Washington works in a new quarterback to the offense, Howard will be a consistent option to lean on. It wouldn’t be surprising to see his production go up this fall.

Coming into this season, the running back position was a spot that we had circled as a position of interest. The Warriors had to replace a very productive running back in Cole Scott and junior

erased any doubts that the Warriors would be just fine in the running game. Howard emerged early on this season with some big performances and comes into Saturday’s championship game. He leads the team in rushing with nearly 1,500 yards and 26 touchdowns on the season. Most of Washington’s games have been over by halftime so Howard doesn’t have that many miles on the tires. He’s averaging just ten carries per game this fall.

had another strong performance in the victory. He finished with nearly 150 yards and five touchdowns but the Longhorns made him work for everything he got on Friday. We’ve mentioned a few times already how Howard was a player to watch this fall as he tried to replace Cole Scott from last year’s title team. There hasn’t been a drop off with Howard toting the rock.

coming into the 2023 season as he looked to replace Cole Scott from last year’s title team. Howard erased any questions we had about the running game in their week zero win over Vian. Howard only carried the ball eight times on the night and half of them went for touchdowns. Howard finished with nearly 200 yards and four touchdowns in the win. He turned around last week and ran for over 100 yards and a touchdown. He does benefit from having a very experienced offensive line in front of him and two division one tight ends on each side of that line opening more running lanes. Howard has definitely impressed so far in the early part of the season and he’ll look to continue that Friday against Jones.

One of our questions surrounding Washington was the running back position as they had to replace a very productive back from last year’s state championship team. That is no longer a question as junior running back

made a loud and immediate statement that the Washington rushing attack was going to be just fine. In their dominant 55-13 win over Vian, Howard would run for nearly 200 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries. Half of his carries ended with Washington touchdowns on Friday night as the Warriors were dominant against Vian for the second straight year. Howard and the Warriors face another ranked team Friday with 3A’s #3 Sulphur.
