The 2026 football season kicks off this week and we're kicking off our coverage with complete and in-depth breakdowns on the state's senior class. This is a class that will go down in the history books as one of the best in state history. We've updated our <a href="https://prepredzone.com/oklahoma/rankings/2027-rankings/">2027 rankings to include the Top 200 prospects in the state</a>. We have a ton of individual breakdowns dropping every day to spotlight some of those special prospects. In this breakdown, we're taking a look at the quarterback position. Broken Bow's [player_tooltip player_id='1525562' first='Greydon' last='Howell'] has had a stranglehold on the QB1 ranking in the 2027 class for a while now. And while he's going to be a wide receiver at the next level with OU, that doesn't change the fact that he's still the most electric quarterback in the state and arguably the most electric football player in Oklahoma. Howell emerged during his sophomore season and then took his game to new heights as a junior. He helped guide the Savages to the 4A semifinals and now, he looks to lead them to the state championship. Howell can do just about anything with the football in his hand. If he was recruited strictly as a quarterback, he would still end up at a very high level. There's a reason why we've called him the most electric quarterback in the state and there's no doubt that he's a special athlete.     There aren't many quarterbacks in the state that have started more games than Owasso's [player_tooltip player_id='1235926' first='Drew' last='Frankenfield'] heading into this season. There also hasn't been another quarterback in this class that has played on the big stage as much as Frankenfield. From his opening game of his sophomore season, Frankenfield has produced and he's produced at a very high level. He's helped guide Owasso to back to back state championship games and the expectation is to make it back there again in 2026. Now, Frankenfield will have a new cast of skill players around him. But if this offseason was any indication, he's ready for the challenge. Frankenfield is not only one of the better quarterbacks in the state, he is in complete control of this offense and is primed for a big senior year.     Lawton quarterback and Oklahoma commit [player_tooltip player_id='1307135' first='Noah' last='Smith'] has about as much momentum as any 2027 prospect as we get closer to kicking off the 2026 football season. At this time last year, Smith was at Blanchard and was preparing to start for the Lions. They had an up and down season and Smith got a fresh start at Lawton this offseason. He joined a Wolverine team that has their arrow pointing up with nearly everyone back from last year's team. Smith then absolutely torched the camp circuit, earning an offer from OU. He would commit to the Sooners immediately and has been loyal to OU ever since. Smith is a big quarterback that has a very strong arm. The ceiling for him has always been high and he's shown that throughout the offseason.     It's a new beginning for [player_tooltip player_id='445315' first='Taven' last='Hayes'] this fall as he's moved over to Noble after spending the last several years as QB1 at Southmoore. Hayes helped lead the Sabercats to their first playoff win in 15 years. Now, he looks to help Noble not only get back to the playoffs but to get a win or two when they get there. We got a chance to watch Hayes a handful of times this offseason. He looked really solid in one of our 7v7 tournaments. And then we watched him in the spring, just a few weeks after joining the Bears. And you would have been shocked that he just joined Noble based on how he played when we got eyes on him. He looked like he had complete control of an offense that he had just joined. We can only imagine what he'll look like this fall with more reps under his belt.     Mustang signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='891992' first='Kason' last='Delgado'] is looking to cap off a very interesting high school career by helping Mustang to new heights in 2026. Delgado has a ton of starting experience but this will be his first year with Mustang. And there's no secret that the Broncos are not lacking talent in the skill positions. All signs point to Delgado being one of the better quarterbacks in 6A-1 this fall. He's played at this level before so he won't be a stranger to it. This offseason, Delgado committed to Louisiana Monroe and has been on the D1 radar since his freshman season. He's continued to improve his game and elevate his potential moving forward. He'll have a ton of talent around him this season so it won't be surprising if he's one of the more productive quarterbacks this fall.     We are going to be watching Edmond North quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1735181' first='Chauncey' last='Cravens'] very closely this season because he has flown under our radar for far too long. Cravens is a really strong athlete and you can make the argument that he's in the same ballpark as Howell in terms of an overall athlete. He's also a standout basketball player at the point guard position. Cravens can do just about everything with the football in his hands and he produced at a high level last season. We think that Edmond North has the guys to make some noise in Class 6A-1. That's going to open the door for Cravens to have a strong senior season, against the best competition in the state. He could certainly flirt with being a top five quarterback in this class when the season is over in December.     Mangum quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='916843' first='Remington' last='Laughlin'] is a 2027 prospect that we've known about for over three years now. Before he even started his freshman season, Laughlin was on our radar. Last year, you could see him put all the pieces together and become a major player to watch in small school football. Laughlin dealt with injury issues in his first two seasons but he was healthy last year and helped the Tigers to one of their better seasons in recent memory. But the job was unfinished and Laughlin and the majority of starters returned to finish what they started in 2025. Laughlin is a terrific runner that has gotten better and better as a pure passer. There's no reason to think that Laughlin won't have Mangum in the state championship picture throughout the 2026 season.     There hasn't been another quarterback in Mount St. Mary history that had the kind of season that [player_tooltip player_id='1035105' first='Roman' last='Manella'] had in 2025. He joined the Rockets after starting for Midwest City during his sophomore season and elevated his overall game in a major way last season. Manella was fantastic for the Rockets and has to be playing with a ton of momentum as he prepares for his senior season. Anybody who has followed our coverage knows by now that we are very high on Mount St. Mary heading into this season. There is no doubt that Manella has a lot of talented players around him to make plays. It wouldn't be surprising if he broke some of those records he set last season. We're looking forward to seeing what kind of overall improvements he's made from 2025 to 2026.     [player_tooltip player_id='1035272' first='Braddox' last='Broughton'] returns for another year as QB1 at Sapulpa. He started his high school career at Edison but has spent the last three seasons with the Chieftains. And when we look at Sapulpa dropping down to Class 5A and what they have returning around Broughton, this could be a very impressive senior season coming up. Broughton is going to be one of the more experienced quarterbacks in Class 5A this season. He's one of the more experienced quarterbacks in this class. When we got a chance to watch him in person back in the spring, Broughton had complete control of this Sapulpa offense. He has a strong arm and all the potential in the world to put up some big numbers this season and have Sapulpa as a contender.     [player_tooltip player_id='1511450' first='Cash' last='Koertner'] is entering an interesting scenario as Sand Springs' new quarterback. They are coming off a state championship and he replaces arguably the school's best quarterback in program history. Koertner is no stranger to taking over at new programs. He played for Norman last fall and started for Del City in 2024. We got a chance to see Koertner in a limited capacity this offseason but he threw the ball very well. And when we look at the Sandites heading into this season, he's not going to be lacking talent at the wide receiver position. The Sandites captured a gold ball last fall and the expectations are incredibly high. He's stepping into the pressure cooker for sure but we think he's ready and will look to keep Sand Springs on top of 6A-2.     [player_tooltip player_id='1206910' first='Landon' last='Kizzar'] is on our shortlist of players that could take a major step forward this season. At this time last year, Kizzar was battling for the starting spot. He would win the role and had a solid junior season. But this year, Kizzar is another year older, added some muscle and weight and looks like he could be one of the better signal callers in 6A-1. Kizzar has looked really good in the last four months and all signs are pointing to him having a big senior season. Jenks will be leaning on him more considering they have to replace arguably the best running back in Oklahoma from a year ago. Kizzar isn't going to shy away from the bright lights of 6A-1 football. Don't be surprised if he ends up taking a major step forward and vaulting up the ranks in this class.     Elgin signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='1680012' first='Cayden' last='Belletto'] is in a similar situation as Kizzar heading into this season. Last year was Belletto's first year as a starter and he shared the backfield with arguably the school's greatest running back. Now, all eyes are going to be on him as the Owls move back up to Class 5A and still expect to contend for the state championship. But when you look back at last season, it's easy to focus on their star running back but Belletto was incredibly solid. And when we watched him in person back in the spring, he played the position with a confidence and a swagger that you would expect from a second year starter. And with more eyes on him and this Elgin offense, we are expecting him to step into that spotlight and make this season count.     When it comes to the 2027 quarterback class, there aren't many signal callers that we're more familiar with than Union's [player_tooltip player_id='1260997' first='Dylan' last='Taylor'] as he heads into his senior season. Taylor has been to many of our offseason showcase camps and every time he shows up, he's one of the best quarterbacks in attendance. Last season, he split reps with another quarterback but now, the position is his and he's going to have the keys to this Union offense. Taylor looked solid back in the spring and all indications are that he has torn it up in the preseason. Union is looking to bounce back this season and get back in the 6A-1 mix. One way is with a solid offense and Taylor certainly has the potential to put up some numbers and elevate his overall stock as a QB.     Sallisaw's [player_tooltip player_id='1678735' first='Kase' last='Adams'] enjoyed a breakout season last fall and comes into this season as one of the more experienced quarterbacks in Class 4A. Adams started showing signs he was the guy for the job as a sophomore and then became the full time starter during his junior season. We watched Adams in person back in February at our showcase camp and he was one of the best quarterbacks in attendance. Sallisaw has high expectations for Adams going into this season. They are still going to be a run-heavy team and Adams has the ability to do that as well. But the Sallisaw signal caller can slice up defenses with his arm. The Black Diamonds expect to be in the mix this season. Adams should be able to produce at a very high level this season.     There aren't many quarterbacks that will have a bigger chip on their shoulders than [player_tooltip player_id='1689435' first='Gage' last='Chance'] this season with Bishop McGuinness. Last season, Chance helped lead the Irish to a 9-0 record. He got hurt in the regular season finale and missed their run to the state championship game and 5A runner up finish. Now, Chance is healthy and ready to make up for lost time. He's a quarterback that will have an opportunity to shine this season. The Irish are very light on the offensive line so Chance is going to have to make a lot happen himself. In those situations, if Chance answers the call and performs well, we could see him getting some opportunities later on in the year. The McGuinness signal caller looked really good when we saw him in the spring.
