was getting prepared for his first season as QB1 and stepping into a role that was filled by arguably the school’s best quarterback in program history. Not the easiest position to be in for a junior quarterback but in our opinion, he passed that test with flying colors and fast forward to today and he appears to be ready to take the next step and become one of the top quarterbacks in Class 5A this season. If this spring was any indication, Belletto is going to absolutely light it up this fall. Last year, he had the ultimate safety valve with his running back. This year, he’s ready to be one of the unquestioned top guys in 5A.

Here is another quarterback prospect that I enjoyed breaking down. Cayden finished out his junior season with 2,464 yards to go along with 27 touchdowns for the Elgin Owls. Cayden does a great job keeping his eyes downfield when plays break down, showing the ability to stay a passer even while scrambling. When the pocket collapses, he can take off and run effectively, picking up yards when needed. He has the arm strength to put the ball on a rope and isn’t afraid to challenge tight windows. Cayden keeps his feet active, which helps him stay balanced and ready to deliver accurate throws, and he does a really nice job throwing on the run. Overall, I liked his style of play and he is geared up for a solid Senior season.

stepped into a situation where he was replacing arguably the best quarterback in school history. Belletto has kept the Owls as the unquestioned #1 team in Class 4A and has them looking like a solid pick to go back to back. Now, Belletto is in a similar position to Kizzar considering they have one of the top running backs in the state. So he doesn’t have some of the numbers that the other quarterbacks on this breakdown have but he’s been incredibly efficient. He’s completing well over 70 percent of his passes. When Elgin has leaned on him to push the ball down the field, he’s been able to do that.

Elgin had the benefit of having a three-year starter at the quarterback position last fall and now they have to replace him. But like we mentioned earlier, they have a guy that’s been just waiting for his opportunity to become QB1 and there’s a chance that the Owls don’t miss a step with him lining up under center. Junior

will be going into his first season at quarterback and a lot will be put on his shoulders and they are big shoes to fill after what we’ve seen from their offense over the last few years. But Belletto really impressed us when we got a chance to watch him in the spring. He had full control of the offense and didn’t look like a QB that was going into his first season as a starter.
