Southmoore signal caller Taven Hayes Taven Hayes OK took a big step forward during his junior season and that was a big reason why the Sabercats made it back to the playoffs and won their first playoff game in 15 years. Now, Hayes and the Sabercats have been bumped back up to Class 6A-1 and we’re looking forward to seeing how Hayes transitions to competing against the state’s top competition. We really like some of the skill players that Southmoore brings back so Hayes is going to have some weapons to go to this fall. When we’ve watched Hayes, we like the way he works through his progressions but he’s not afraid to tuck the ball and use his legs as a weapon as well. He’s a pass-first quarterback that has the ability to beat defenses with a scramble here and there. The jump Hayes made from his sophomore year to junior year was notable and there’s no doubt that he’s hungry for more.

is another signal caller where the arrow continues to point up as he continues to get more reps and overall experience. We watched Hayes back in the spring and he really impressed us there. That’s continued this season. Prior to this season, we’ve seen the numbers that Hayes has put up and have been impressed. But the thing that is really sticking out to us this fall has been his work in the run game. We saw glimpses of it back in the spring that Hayes can be very dangerous with his legs. He has the production in the passing game and now he’s starting to add more elements to his game to make him dangerous.

returns for his second season as QB1 of the Sabercats this season. Last year, Hayes definitely had some growing pains in his first year as a starter but he absolutely produced. Hayes Put up some numbers that were among the best in Class 6A-2 and he’s hungry for more in 2025. Hayes is a true dual-threat at the quarterback position. We got a chance to watch Southmoore in person during the spring and Hayes was just as dangerous with his legs as he was with his arm. That running ability might be flying under the radar but he’s primed for a big year.

steps into the Southmoore program after spending his freshman season at Moore. Hayes is a guy that we knew about prior to his freshman season and he had a good 2023 season at the non-varsity level. Now, it’s his turn to step into the spotlight and we’ll see what he can do with the opportunity. Hayes definitely has the talent to be a good quarterback in 6A-2 football. There might be some growing pains and a learning curve early on. But we think that by the time October and November rolls around, he’ll be very comfortable.

going into this season. Last fall, Hayes was at Moore and had a really good showing in non-varsity action. He put up some monster numbers and took care of the football. But this offseason, Hayes has moved to Southmoore and with the Sabercats losing their two-year starter at quarterback, that’s opened things up for Hayes to take over.

Taven Hayes is a dual-threat quarterback that has proven to be one of the more well-rounded quarterbacks that I have seen out of this class. Coming out of the Sooner State, Taven is a big 6’0 tall quarterback that is getting ready to fill out into a big frame. With some big performances at showcases around the state, it is clear that Taven has no problem competing with some of the top talents in his class and has proven to outshine his peers. With his quick and smooth release, Taven makes everything that he does look easy. On the run, Taven is a natural at finding his landmark, setting his feet, and finishing a nice ball that would fit into a bucket from just about anywhere. Taven’s active feet allow him to move around in the pocket with perfect control while maintaining downfield vision. With the skillset that Taven has shown, there is no telling what he is going to be capable of down the road. If he continues to follow this trajectory, Taven may end up being one of the best quarterbacks that Moore, Oklahoma has ever seen.

at Quarterback next year and it could pay off quickly. The 6-foot, 155-pound has already been invited on unofficial visits to North Alabama, Akron and Oklahoma State. The field general cleaned up the awards at Highland East Junior High this year, taking home All-Conference honors, Newcomer of the Year honors and Offensive Skill Player of the Year honors. Stay tuned.

Hayes is the type of Quarterback prospect that gets you, me and everyone else excited about what’s to come over the next four years, as he’s getting ready to enter high school. The 6-foot, 155-pound righty is currently lighting up the scoreboard for Highland East Junior High to the tune of 500+ yards and 10 touchdowns in limited time in three games due to lopsided victories. The eighth-grader will be headed to Moore High School next year, currently ranked No.15 in the state, and located less than a half hour from Oklahoma City, nearly smack dab in the middle of the state. Watching his film, he has an absolute cannon for an arm and there isn’t a throw on the field he can’t make at this point. I wouldn’t call him a true dual-threat but he can certainly take off and scorn defenses with his 4.98 speed in the forty. I’d be more concerned with what he can do with his arm in terms of hitting the deep ball and throwing with very good accuracy. Certainly among the top 2027 Quarterbacks I have seen in Oklahoma right now.
