Our new junior rankings have hit the market and it's a strong class right now that I think will get deeper as the months go on. Inside today's overview, we breakdown the "Top Ten" prospects as well as the quarterbacks, running backs and secondary inside our "Tennessee Top 150."

- Our new junior prospect rankings are live and chalk full of next level talent that includes multiple players destined for the Power Four, D1 playing stage. There was some tough scouting to do as several positions are stacked full of talent while other positional groups are lacking depth right now. This will all change as we go through the upcoming season and into the off-season months as some players will regress while others jump forward. I also see players listed inside our new “Tennessee Top 150” that have big potential but have yet to put everything together, which means I expect some prospects to develop and raise their stocks over the coming months.

The Top Ten ……

- We had several strong options to consider for our top overall prospect within the TN2028 class but in the end, it came down to two players in [player_tooltip player_id='1193376' first='Jermaine' last='Cobbins'] from Springfield and [player_tooltip player_id='1177837' first='Ayden' last='Woodruff'] out of Ravenwood. The defensive back from Springfield won out as we see Cobbins as a true lock cover corner that brings tremendous potential to the playing field and the ability to one day become an All-American that plays his way into the pro ranks. Cobbins has everything you want to compete on the island and I believe will only get better as he continues to grow and mature.

Ranked as a top D-line prospect, Woodruff is a beautiful looking specimen that provides versatility up front and an athletic profile that is still being formed. The Raptors junior big man has a skill set that allows him to rush the passer while providing excellent play in stopping the run. Woodruff is naturally strong with good arm length that allows him to take on and shed blocks well then chase down the ball using his lower half agility and explosion.

The top two players were somewhat easy to place but after Cobbins and Woodruff, things became interesting as several players presented themselves capable of being ranked 3rd overall but I eventually landed on Baylor tight end [player_tooltip player_id='1201841' first='Braxton' last='Rein']. I think he is the best natural pass catcher in this class that can do a little bit of everything on the football field. The Red Raiders junior can stretch the field, separate with his speed, make tough contested catches or develop into an outstanding run blocker. Rein is a highly talented young man that I think still has higher levels to his game.

Placed back to back in our rankings at 4th and 5th overall are our top two O-line prospects in [player_tooltip player_id='423394' first='Koehn' last='Dial'] from BGA and fast rising Lipscomb Academy tackle [player_tooltip player_id='2182382' first='Ty' last='Hathaway']. Both these guys have multi-year college starters written all over them with big time potential to stay in the game of football for a long time. Dial is a massive young man that plays a physical, technique sound brand of ball. He has enough athleticism to handle right tackle in college but may eventually fit best on the interior at guard.

Hathaway may have as much upside as anyone from this junior class, especially due to the fact that he can handle the blindside in college. The Mustangs big man is a smooth athlete that moves his feet well while using his long arms to keep defenders in-check. He does need to continue getting bigger and stronger while enhancing his game but the build and athletic tools are there to become an elite pass blocker on the next level.

Knox. Catholic safety [player_tooltip player_id='1031949' first='Brooks' last='Johnston'] comes in next at 6th overall as our second best defensive back prospect and the top overall safety coming out of the TN2028 class. Standing 6 '2 and 190 pounds, the Fighting Irish junior has an excellent combination of athleticism, size and speed that could allow him to excel playing the field or working on the boundary. Johnston runs well, showing explosive game play along with outstanding instincts and the physicality to help in run support. There is a lot to like about Johnston and his future on the college stage.

The top prospect coming out of the greater Memphis area this cycle looks to be [player_tooltip player_id='1181298' first='Pierce' last='Washington'] from Bartlett. Sporting great physical tools and traits (6'4 205 lbs) along with separating speed, the Panthers wide receiver is a difficult matchup on the outside that has dominating flashes about his game. Whether it's done through his athleticism or physicality, Washington is a game changer that can dominate his opponents and change the aspect of the game in one play. Everything is in place for Washington to become a #1 target on the college level that could push his game into the pro ranks one day.

Coming in just behind Washington at 8th overall is our second ranked wideout in [player_tooltip player_id='1028041' first='Jeramy' last='Laster']. A speedster from Beech that can change the game in a heartbeat, Laster is a big time athlete that plays bigger than his size. The Bucs junior pass catcher has the speed college staffs desire as well as the football knowledge and savvy body movements to either take short passes into long gains or beat his opponent deep. Laster can be used in a variety of ways but should work well out of the slot where he becomes a mismatch for linebackers and safeties.

Our top ranked TN2028 quarterback comes in next ranked 9th overall and he could raise his ranking with a strong junior campaign. Westview signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='424594' first='Graham' last='Simpson'] is coming off winning a state championship as a sophomore, so the Chargers junior is already a winner but also has outstanding passing mechanics with enough arm strength to make all the throws. A smart, savvy guy behind center, Simpson could benefit himself by getting bigger and stronger but I love the intelligence and understanding of the game that comes from him and what he can bring to a college quarterback room.

Rounding out the top ten is BGA pass catcher [player_tooltip player_id='1030085' first='Max' last='Curry']. Starting since his freshman season, the Wildcats receiver is a top option out of the slot that is athletic, fast and physical that can be a deep threat or take short receptions into long gains. Curry is a tough guy that does well against physical contact, showing strong hands and excellent concentration. I also think Curry could be the best return guy from this class, so there is a lot of value with this Mid-Tennessee product that translates well to the college game.

Strong Quarterback Crop

- We have been blessed here in Tennessee the last several years with talented quarterbacks and the 2028 class looks equipped to continue that trend. Simpson sits as our top ranked guy but several others behind him are legit with tons of college interest and offers. Ranked 2nd among the quarterbacks and 23rd overall, McCallie junior [player_tooltip player_id='1362634' first='Louis' last='Fortier'] might have the most powerful arm from this class. Sporting great physical size, the Blue Tornado signal caller has yet to be the full time starter at McCallie but has already shown next level upside that I believe will be on full display this Fall season.

Brentwood signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='904978' first='Gavin' last='Strang'] (31st overall/3rd QB) has watched his stock take off this off-season by landing several Power Four offers and his list could expand with a breakout junior season. New to the state of Tennessee, Blackman junior [player_tooltip player_id='1217665' first='Chase' last='Bell'] (49th overall/4th QB) displays next level arm talent with the athleticism to create anywhere around the pocket. He has a big arm too that can get stronger with further development.

One of the biggest risers this off-season has been Memphis Central quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1094224' first='Brooks' last='Wright']. Ranked 50th overall and 5th among the quarterbacks, Wright is a smooth passer that reads defensive coverage well while being able to throw into windows. He has vastly improved his arm power while gaining more overall size, which I think has put him in position to gain Power Four interest.

Two other Memphis area signal callers in [player_tooltip player_id='1037302' first='Thomas' last='Heffner'] (56th overall/6th QB) and [player_tooltip player_id='1036114' first='Cayden' last='Dixon'] (63rd overall/7th QB) from Briarcrest Christian have next level talent with room to get better as they both continue to grow and mature. Heffner could be considered as the top dual threat quarterback from this class, who could boost his stock by continuing to learn how to scan the field and throw into windows. Some of the best mechanics and pure passing from this group comes from Dixon. The Saints junior has the physical look desired along with a calm, cool presence behind center.

Stepping into a starting role this Fall, [player_tooltip player_id='1196806' first='Tate' last='Mathis'] (81st overall/8th QB) is someone I'm quite high on that has yet to breakthrough but I believe that changes over the next several months. The Eagles signal caller has a nice mix of athleticism, dual threat skills along with passing upside that should become quite appealing to college staffs. Transferring to Whitehaven in the off-season, [player_tooltip player_id='1588108' first='Jour'din' last='Shelton'] (96th overall/9th QB) is a pass first dual threat signal caller that brings good upside to the playing field. The Tigers quarterback has good mechanics with solid arm power that can be enhanced and if done so along with reading coverage better, Shelton could see a ranking boost in our next update.

TN2028 Quarterback Rankings/Database

After all the work putting together our rankings, we ended up with nine quarterbacks inside the “Top 100” and more could join them with strong Fall campaigns. Ravenwood junior [player_tooltip player_id='2113901' first='Brooks' last='Brown'] (110th overall/10th QB) is the next guy in line to potentially move up. A new starter this coming season, Brown has the arm talent and football knowledge to see his recruitment explode as long as he performs like we think he can. FRA junior [player_tooltip player_id='1037670' first='Jack' last='Nimitz'] (137th overall/11th QB) was a first time starter last year as a sophomore and he performed very well, helping lead his Panthers team towards the D2-Class AA state title game. A dual threat guy that is dynamic in the pocket, Nimitz can boost his stock with improvement in the passing game, showing better reads and a quicker trigger.

Two under the radar quarterbacks to keep track of this season that I think could be on the verge of breakout seasons is [player_tooltip player_id='2148583' first='Cayden' last='True'] (140th overall/12th QB) from Dickson Co. and [player_tooltip player_id='2227596' first='Pearson' last='Harrison'] (141st overall/13th QB) out of Science Hill. Both of these signal callers have the physical look desired for the college game along with powerful right arms that show potential to make all the throws. True and Harrison will be stepping into first time starter roles this Fall, so there is still a lot to learn about both but I see next level potential with each guy.

Running Backs Well Represented

- The ball carriers within our junior class were given a good draw as we see 13 prospects listed inside our “Tennessee Top 150” but I don't know if we have that special talent or that person that stands out far above everybody else. I still think it's a solid class that can get better and deeper as we go through the 2026 season with several guys sporting D1, possible Power Four abilities.

Our top ranked running back for this cycle at the moment is Forrest junior [player_tooltip player_id='1589943' first='Quincy' last='Mitchell']. The state's leading returner rusher from last season, Mitchell (54th overall) has some elite abilities about his game that stands out more than his size. The Rockets junior is only 5'7 175 pounds but Mitchell plays much bigger and runs with a fearless mindset. Mitchell has elite footwork. He has some of the quickest feet in the state along with speed that makes him difficult for opposing defenses to stop.

Ranked 2nd among the running backs and 65th overall, Knox. Webb junior [player_tooltip player_id='1084814' first='Matthew' last='Rogers'] is stepping into a lead role with the Spartans this Fall and I think he will flourish, where he should display some of the best burst and explosion in the state. Rogers is a compact, strong ball carrier that brings a nice balance of athleticism, power and speed to the field along with room to get better with more experience.

Two spots behind Rogers at 67th overall, Page running back [player_tooltip player_id='1571091' first='Isaac' last='Otey'] (3rd RB) is the top power back in this class that does have deceptive athleticism and speed to his game. The Patriots ball carrier shows a secondary gear once into the open field and I think he can get faster the more he develops and grows. I think Houston junior [player_tooltip player_id='1718454' first='Raderius' last='Robertson'] (74th overall/4th RB) is flying under the radar right now but should burst onto the scene this Fall as the Mustangs top offensive weapon. Robertson is an explosive runner with some of the best power, speed combo in this class.

The Murfreesboro area is strong with running backs this coming season and two of the best come next in our rankings with [player_tooltip player_id='1868595' first='Jacob' last='Vaughn'] (Oakland) placed 75th (5th RB) and Blackman ball carrier [player_tooltip player_id='1029916' first='Micah' last='Nance'] (6th RB) coming in at 76th overall. Both these guys are fast, explosive runners that can hit the home run anytime the ball touches their hands. Vaughn is more of a pure athletic back that is based off speed while Nance provides a little more power and size to go along with his fast running style.

Southwind running back [player_tooltip player_id='1704670' first='Logan' last='Hughes'] (78th overall/7th RB) is a talented prospect that keeps himself out of the public eye but his clips show D1 abilities with the possibility of growing into a Power Four prospect. He should be stepping into a lead role this Fall and if he performs at a high level, Hughes may garner a ton of college interest.

Ranked just outside the “Top 100” at 104th overall, [player_tooltip player_id='2233354' first='Ryheem' last='Lee Jr.'] (8th RB) brings a compact, physical running style to the field that I think translates well to the college game. He will be given a shot to start and excel at Knox. Catholic this season, where I believe he should establish himself as one of the best ball carriers coming from the East Tennessee region. Competing in the same region, [player_tooltip player_id='1661127' first='Nathan' last='Patterson'] (114th overall/9th RB) from Sevier Co. has a lot of game experience thus far in his career, including being a key piece on the Smoky Bears title run two years ago. This guy is a true power back that has deceptive speed but if he can increase that area, Patterson will see his stock rise.

Two more East Tennessee products to know about inside our rankings are [player_tooltip player_id='1038480' first='Dee' last='McNealy'] (133rd overall/11th RB) from Tyner Academy and [player_tooltip player_id='2132912' first='Jack' last='Ferguson'] (135th overall/12th RB) out of Boyd Buchanan. McNealy goes both ways for his Rams but displays good upside at running back, where he presents a nice combo of athleticism, power and speed. Ferguson has some of the best footwork, close quarters, shifty movements in this class. The Bucs junior ball carrier is elusive with the ball in his hands and deceptively strong that shows solid contact balance.

The last running back ranked inside our “Top 150” is someone I think can make a dramatic move upwards with a strong junior season. Marshall Co. ball carrier [player_tooltip player_id='1885826' first='Tot' last='Gardner'] (136th overall/13th RB) is an athletic, quick footed runner that produced over 1,000 yards last year as a sophomore. The Tigers junior shows playmaking abilities from his backfield spot along with room to get bigger and stronger with continued work inside the weight room. Look for Gardner to play his way into Mr. Football consideration by the end of the 2026 season.

TN2028 Running Back Rankings/Database

Best Position Group: Defensive Backs

- When you dive into our Tennessee Top 150, you will see the secondary is well represented with the most ranked prospects in this class and I think it will get even deeper when we update things in the Fall. Two guys in Cobbins and Johnston are ranked inside the top ten but several others are right behind them, fighting for top spots. Brentwood Academy junior [player_tooltip player_id='2160693' first='Braylen' last='Benford'] (12th overall/3rd DB) is the next guy behind the top two and someone that could move into the “top ten” with a strong junior season. Benford is a fast, instinctive ball hawk safety that makes great reads while displaying explosive game play.

Ranked just behind Benford at 13th overall, new Baylor defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1029798' first='Xavier' last='Bowman'] (4th DB) is a potential college cover corner that also has versatility to handle other roles in the secondary. I do like his potential on the outside due to his athleticism and high football intelligence that translates well to college. Tyner Academy safety [player_tooltip player_id='1565851' first='Antonio' last='Edwards'] (15th overall/5th DB) has emerged in a big way as he holds several high quality Power Four offers due to his athletic game play and upside for the next level. The Rams junior shows explosive flashes and I think he has higher levels to his game that has yet to be tapped into.

Recently committing to Alabama, Knox. Catholic junior [player_tooltip player_id='1031890' first='Braylen' last='Gibbs'] (21st overall/6th DB) is a budding star that is still coming into his own but displays excellent college upside that could one day be showcased on the pro playing stage. The exact same thing could be said for Oak Ridge defender [player_tooltip player_id='1570535' first='Zayden' last='Williams']. Ranked 24th overall and 7th among the defensive backs, Williams is a tall, long, physical prospect from Oak Ridge that is forming nicely into a cover corner but could certainly excel at safety as well.

Oak Ridge (TN) 2028 defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1570535' first='Zayden' last='Williams']

Missing out on his sophomore season due to injury, Baylor safety [player_tooltip player_id='1565624' first='Carter' last='Charapata'] (30th overall/8th DB) is looking to bounce back with a strong junior year and he has the tools to do so. The Red Raiders safety sports great size (6'2 190), ball skills and the range to make plays all over the secondary. Watching how he bounces back from his injury will be interesting to see as there is a lot to like about Charapata. Pearl Cohn junior [player_tooltip player_id='2141414' first='K.J.' last='Hoskins'] (33rd overall/9th DB) is someone I like a lot and think will emerge as a legitimate Power Four guy after the 2026 football season.

When you have the ability to play cover corner, you will get plenty of interest from college coaches and I think [player_tooltip player_id='1576785' first='Terry' last='Ligon'] (39th overall/10th DB) is on the verge of breaking out, so expect tons of offers to come his way over time. Tall and long with a wide radius, Ligon is an athletic guy for his size that runs well while showing explosive flashes. He is also a willing tackler in run support that tracks the ball well. Ligon needs more weight and overall size but I love the ability to handle receivers on the outside.

Knox. Catholic junior [player_tooltip player_id='2144592' first='Skylan' last='Johnson'] (46th overall/11th DB) is an interesting prospect for me and someone I need to scout further into the season. I have him listed as a safety right now but I can myself switching him to linebacker eventually as I think that may be where his best upside resides. There is a lot of development left to go but I like the raw talent coming out of [player_tooltip player_id='1065916' first='Jeisun' last='Thompson']. Ranked 47th overall and 12th among the defensive backs, Thompson is a long, rangy defender that could develop at both cornerback or safety while also having value on special teams.

Two hidden gems that I think could be poised for breakout junior campaigns are [player_tooltip player_id='1578457' first='Donovan' last='Lloyd'] (64th overall/13th DB) from Knox. Webb and DCA safety [player_tooltip player_id='2136033' first='Dominic' last='Davis'] (68th overall), the 14th ranked defensive back in the 2028 class. One of the best workers in the state, Lloyd vastly improved over the off-season to show his potential in college at handling cover corner duties. Davis is an explosive, fast and violent safety prospect that has great size (6'2 185) and range and could be one of the better run stoppers from our junior secondary position group.

Westview junior [player_tooltip player_id='1092637' first='Messiah' last='Ward'] (71st overall/15th DB) is an outside cover corner prospect that presents several strong qualities that translate to the college game. He runs well, shows good hip movements and the long speed to stay on path with his receiver. Recently landing an offer from Columbia, our 16th ranked defensive back is [player_tooltip player_id='2210880' first='Christian' last='Blivens'] (77th overall) and he is a guy that could play his way into our “Top 50” with a strong junior season and further enhancement with his agility and speed.

Our next grouping of secondary players ranked inside the “Tennessee Top 150” are all safeties and all five of them are talented with college level skill sets and size. Briarcrest Christian junior [player_tooltip player_id='1538481' first='Titus' last='Hassell'] (80th overall/17th DB) is a prospect I could see ascending in our rankings as long as he puts forth a productive 2026 season. He has the athleticism and size desired but must continue to enhance his agility and burst. Sporting great size on the back end, Sevier Co. safety [player_tooltip player_id='1178599' first='Zach' last='Banks'] (85th overall/18th DB) is a sleeper prospect to me that should start to garner more college interest after the coming season. He is athletic, big and long with ball skills and range that flashes throughout his sophomore highlights.

McCallie junior [player_tooltip player_id='1316718' first='Mylz' last='Williams'] (86th overall/19th DB) may be undersized and needing more weight added but the Blue Tornado safety is a gamer, a feisty competitor that closes fast on the ball and has no problem delivering physical contact. I personally think Williams could be in the mix as one of the best nickel prospects in this class. I think Blackman junior [player_tooltip player_id='1580781' first='Jayden' last='Sanders'] (87th overall/20th DB) still has higher levels to his game and that might start to show this Fall. He has all the physical tools you want along with plenty of room for growth. A fast riser this off-season and someone to track this season is Dickson Co. safety [player_tooltip player_id='2148586' first='Max' last='Greene']. The Cougars junior defender (92nd overall/21st DB) is an athletic guy on the back end that runs well while sporting tremendous athletic abilities. He has more work to do in the weight room while enhancing his skill set but I like the long term potential with Greene.

The city of Memphis is well represented in this year's secondary class with several guys that have a chance to breakthrough this coming season. Southwind junior [player_tooltip player_id='2228527' first='Camryn' last='Young'] (93rd overall/22nd DB) is a guy to keep track of and somebody I think has a shot to handle cornerback in college. He brings athleticism and size to the field along with strong instincts. Joining Young in the Jags secondary is [player_tooltip player_id='1617036' first='Miguel' last='Moore'] (98th overall/25th DB), a big, physical safety that shows flashes of athletic game play and physicality. Gaining an offer from Memphis this summer, [player_tooltip player_id='1030582' first='Jaden' last='Dale'] (97th overall/24th DB) from MASE is a versatile piece on the back end that I think fits best at safety, where he can use his height and length to his advantage.

Marion Co. junior [player_tooltip player_id='1691522' first='Quincy' last='Mills'] (94th overall/23rd DB) is one of the more interesting prospects from our rising junior secondary class. The Warriors defender holds plenty of college offers right now but I think he has more development left to warrant his next level opportunities. Mills handles duties outside at corner but for college, I like his upside best at nickel, where his feisty game play, quick first step and physicality can shine the most. This guy isn't the biggest but Mills plays with heart and the desire to produce.

Two highly talented prospects to keep eyes on over the coming months that have upside to play cover corner in college are [player_tooltip player_id='2179329' first='Isaiah' last='Coclough'] (105th overall/26th DB) from Dobyns-Bennett and [player_tooltip player_id='2227298' first='Christian' last='Harris'] (126th overall/28th DB) out of Christian Brothers. Coclough brings good height and length to the field along with a build that can pack on more weight but really stands out about him is his ability to run and flip his hips. Much of the same can be said about Harris. The Purple Wave junior goes both ways for his team but I like his potential on defense where his 4.4 speed could help him develop into a lock down island defender in college.

Going through all the junior secondary prospects, Rockvale defender [player_tooltip player_id='2233340' first='Jeremiah' last='Chandler'] (125th overall/27th DB) was somebody that stood out to me as a potential breakthrough player this Fall and someone that can boost his stock significantly. When you look over his sophomore film, you see Chandler taking reps at both cornerback and safety. The Rockets junior is a tall, long defender that shows flashes of quick feet and closing speed but must get faster to remain outside. Safety could be his future but it will be interesting to see how he develops over the Fall season.

Finishing things up with the defensive backs inside the “Tennessee Top 150” are two Mid-Tennessee prospects in [player_tooltip player_id='1568928' first='Destin' last='Jones'] (139th overall/29th DB) from Northeast and [player_tooltip player_id='2233900' first='Kyzaiah' last='White'] (143rd overall/30th DB) out of Innovation Academy that present next level abilities and potential to shine on the college stage. Jones is a multi-year starter and versatile piece that plays a lot at corner for his Eagles team but may transition best to college at safety or maybe nickelback. White looks the part and presents a lot of physical upside from his safety position. Tall and long with a physical build, White may play on the 1A level but he has the talent to generate plenty of next level interest, especially if he has a stand out junior campaign.
