Heffner could be in-store for a monster season with the Lynx, especially with his experience last year at Melrose and the talent surrounding him on offense this Fall. As a sophomore last year, Heffner put up a lot of numbers and with his style of play, I could see Heffner generating another big year that puts him squarely in the mix to compete for D2-Class AA Mr. Football. The Lynx junior is one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the state that could produce a 1,000 plus yard season both through the air and on the ground. If Heffner is able to accomplish that, he won’t only be in the mix but could sit at the top as a prime candidate for the state’s top individual honor while also placing his Lausanne team in the conversation to compete for a state championship.
He has solid size at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, but he has a very lively arm that should add even more zip with another year of development as a quarterback and in the weight room.
He is an explosive athlete and a true dual-threat weapon, able to generate explosive plays with his legs from anywhere on the football field.
As a passer, he needs to trust what he sees and his arm talent to get the ball out sooner and into tighter windows, but he has the arm talent and play recognition to do that.
For his junior jump, that development will help him take a huge step forward at the position and is certainly something he can improve as he has flashed those qualities throughout the season, which gets one excited about his potential as a dynamic dual-threat weapon for the next two years.
He is a prospect that should be on breakout watch for next season even with the potential early season growing pains that could take place.
