Stats: 22 carr. for 345 yds & 5 TD’s

His Rockets team didn’t need his big play services in the first two weeks of action but last Friday against Mt. Pleasant, they did and Mitchell delivered with a near 350 yard rushing game along with five touchdowns. It was yet another superb showing from this junior running back that has produced multiple 300 plus rushing games throughout his Forrest career. Mitchell was dynamic against the Tigers where they could not get a grasp on him due to his combination of athleticism, balance, power and speed. Currently ranked as the top junior running back by Prep Redzone Tennessee, Mitchell is under recruited right now but more games like this may finally force big time college programs to look in his direction.

The Rockets could have a special 2026 season but only if Mitchell is allowed to go off for another big season while others around him contribute and do their job. Last year was a breakout campaign for Mitchell where he ran for almost 3,000 yards while producing 36 touchdowns. Those numbers alone would say Mitchell was the clear cut Mr. Football winner but the people that made the selection ended up going with someone else. I think that will put a chip on Mitchell’s shoulder and force him to dominate yet again this Fall. Now I don’t think it will be easy as opposing teams will put their full attention on stopping the Rockets ball carrier but I still expect Mitchell to go off. This Mid-Tennessee product definitely sits at the top of the list for Mr. Football contenders this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes home with the award.

Built with a compact, well-developed frame, Mitchell runs with a powerful lower half that translates to real burst and explosiveness in space. He was dangerous after the catch, making sharp cuts that left defenders frozen and struggling to recover. Mitchell also proved to be a capable pass catcher out of the backfield, giving his offense another reliable option when the ball came his way.

 If it wasn’t for the overwhelming season put up by Simpson, this Mid-Tennessee running back would be our player of the year. Mitchell had a dominating sophomore campaign where he produced 2,919 yards rushing on 296 carries with 36 touchdowns while averaging 9.8 yards per carry. Nobody the Rockets faced this year could stop or had answers for Mitchell. He ran around and through his opponents all year long using his balance, speed and vision to get the job done. The Rockets sophomore is a bit undersized with height but Mitchell plays much bigger while having the unique feel for running the ball that I believe works well on the next level. Mitchell will definitely be in the mix to compete for our 3A player of the year honors over the next two years, barring any injuries.
