2026 Leap List: QB Breakout Picks

Whether it means breaking through on varsity or finally emerging on the recruiting scene, the stock on these guys will be higher at the end of the year than it is now. He is a long, thin prospect with the natural, whippy release that comes with that. What really sets the stage here is what he can accomplish as a runner. His long strides allow him to lift off, but he strains and creates yards in the short areas. He has the potential to be an extremely dangerous player with the football, regardless if he ends up at QB or not, especially when you factor in the room he has for physical growth. He is a tall, lean athlete with plenty of space to fill out and add more mass. He is a smooth passer who impresses with his finesse, consistently proving capable of moving the ball up and down. He is a loose athlete who can skip around contact and move in the pocket. D1 buzz is here, but with just a year of true varsity experience under his belt, there is some tread on the tires here and plenty of room for him to grow. Shambley has really intriguing physical traits, standing on a big, lean frame. He can get long in his delivery, but there is natural life on the ball credited to his natural, whippy motion. He has really intriguing physical traits, standing at 6'6 and a thin 200. He throws the football with booming trajectory and gets easy life on it. Athletically, he is intriguing as well, doubling as a productive basketball prospect. He uses his long strides to eat up turf and take advantage of space quickly. Given the size, multi-sport background, and upside that comes with it, Garner is a strong candidate to receive buzz as a senior. Hand has a long, natural, explosive delivery with effortless life on the football. His footwork and mechanics are still coming around, but he can touch each level of the field with just his arm talent alone. I wouldn't consider him a true threat as a runner, but he has good off-script feel and is skilled enough as an athlete to escape. After steadying the ship at QB last year for Milton, he heads over to North Cobb, where he will presumably take over the reins at QB and continue to raise his stock. Halevi is on the smaller side, but a slick athlete with clean mechanics. He is a modern-style QB who can skip around the pocket, can alter his arm angle to make different throws, and is athletic enough to make off-platform plays. He has back-to-back years of varsity experience, but he has more to give as far as production is concerned. Clements is a strong-armed, well-built drive ball thrower who has developed well from a physique standpoint. He can pump the ball out of his hand, and adding finesse and nuance as a passer will continue to round his game off. Page is a strong, sturdy, well-developed prospect who has always seemed a step ahead of other QBs in the class in terms of his advancement. Page has a quick, explosive delivery with the ability to mix up speed on the ball, but he really flashes with some of the touch throws he makes vertically. He is a good enough athlete to keep plays alive and move the chains, and at his size, he can surely drop the shoulder and fall forward, too. Johnson comes from a basketball background, and he is a pretty dynamic athlete in space. Thanks to his mass, he is a candidate to grind down the defense and get tough yards as well. He gets the ball out quickly, but I think there is another level of pop and confidence he can reach as a passer. He is raw talent in a bottle right now, but more programs are sure to get involved here as his exposure to the recruiting scene increases. He is a dual-threat lefty who can roll in space and tack on some physical yards as well. He gets the ball out quickly and can move the ball up and down with high trajectory. He gives his receivers a chance down the field and should continue adding more velocity and pop to the ball as he grows. He is a well-developed, smooth athlete at 6'3 200. He is a dual threat with the impressive ability to create space for himself to get good footing in the pocket. In space, once he gets rolling, his long strides help him eat up turf and separate. He is a smooth, easy-going passer with a long, whippy delivery. He taps into different speeds, but his touch and placement in the intermediate areas are what draw my eye the most as a passer. Waldrop is starting to round together and take shape as a QB prospect. He is listed at around 6'2 190, and is well-built into that frame. He stands confidently in the pocket and is capable of twitching around contact in the pocket. He has a longer delivery with natural life on the ball, and he proves capable of pushing the ball vertically even when he can't fully shift his weight. In the spring game against Auburn, I was really impressed with how he attacked and layered the ball into tough spots over the MOF. Evidenced by several in-person exposures, Pierce has turned a corner in his development and looks like a totally new player this year. He is a big body who puts good drive on the ball. His delivery looks much more tight and comfortable today than it did a year ago, and he still has room to improve. He doubles as a basketball athlete, so while he is a tall and commanding player in the pocket, he has the juice to keep the offense on schedule with his legs. Names will continue to emerge here, and I think Goldsmith is a candidate to play himself onto the radar of D1 coaches this fall. He is a smaller, but athletic QB prospect with impressive arm talent. He has a smooth, explosive release and is capable of mixing up arm angles and trajectories to bend and place the ball around defenders. He is best as a drive ball thrower, where he can fire the ball and put it right on receivers. From a traits perspective, he is a standout out of AL, and a real candidate to become a popular target amongst FBS, and possibly P4 programs down the stretch. He doubles as a baseball prospect and has undeniable arm talent. Up close, he effortlessly ripped the ball all over the yard and pushed it vertically in tough conditions. He is an impressive athlete, possessing the ability to not only evade pressure and move the chains,, but to create his own yards and act as a playmaker in the designed run game. He can push the ball vertically and attack tight windows, which he will only get better at doing as his delivery tightens. He possesses the athleticism to keep plays alive when chaos ensues. Spencer is another one of those guys. He holds a pair of early D1 offers, and that's before he has fully jumped onto the radar and contributed. He is a toweing 6'6 200 with plenty of frame left to pack on. He has a big arm, with potential and room to add even more spin and velocity on his throws. He can put some lofty trajectory on the ball, and at his size, he will generate the most buzz with his ability to generate shock plays down the field with his arm. Wiggins has a deep multi-sport background, both in baseball and in T/F. He triple jumped over 46 feet as a freshman this T/F season. He is a smaller, but lean and athletic prospect. The arm talent is there, but it's his smooth, natural pace that really impresses me. He has a long, elastic delivery and can put some heat on the ball. He is an athletic, sturdy runner who can be designed opportunities to lead the offensive attack as a rusher. Everyone who has worked with or been around Thomas has had rave reviews.
