Here is our playoff semifinals preview for round three.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">#3 MARTINSBURG vs #7 UNIVERSITY</h2>   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">HOW MARTINSBURG GOT HERE:</h3>    Martinsburg continued its trend of fast starts in the Class AAAA quarterfinals, racing out to a three-touchdown lead in the first quarter en route to a 55-35 win over Wheeling Park. The Bulldogs struck quickly, with [player_tooltip player_id='895900' first='Brian' last='Dick'] scoring twice early and [player_tooltip player_id='1155328' first='Kingston' last='McDonald-Gibson'] breaking free for a 50-yard touchdown to make it 20-0 before Wheeling Park answered with an 80-yard TD pass from [player_tooltip player_id='658279' first='Jay' last='Bordas'] to [player_tooltip player_id='1616261' first='Preston' last='Heatherington']. Martinsburg's ground game dominated, amassing over 500 rushing yards, including a 20-yard TD run by [player_tooltip player_id='1154974' first='Boston' last='Todd'] before halftime, while Wheeling Park managed to cut the lead to 27-14 at the break.   The Patriots briefly threatened in the third quarter, narrowing the gap to 27-21 and then 27-21 before Martinsburg responded with three unanswered scores, highlighted by Todd, McDonald-Gibson, and Dick. Wheeling Park added a pair of late touchdowns, but the Bulldogs continued to push the pace, including an 87-yard run from McDonald-Gibson, to seal a decisive 55-35 victory. Dick finished with 149 rushing yards and three TDs, while Bordas threw for 187 yards in the first half and also rushed for 201 yards with two TDs, showing both teams' offensive firepower despite Martinsburg's dominance.   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">HOW UNIVERSITY GOT HERE:</h3>    University is heading to the state semifinals for the first time since 2009 after a 35-28 win over the Highlanders. The Hawks improved to 9-3 and will face the winner of the quarterfinal between No. 6 Wheeling Park and No. 3 Martinsburg next weekend. Even as a sophomore, he's demonstrated the size, athleticism, and toughness to handle carries in big-game situations, making him a weapon the Bulldogs can rely on. With continued development, Myers has the tools to emerge as a high-level prospect and could draw D1 interest in the future.     2028 DB [player_tooltip player_id='1625117' first='DeJuan' last='Woodson'] has made a noticeable impact for Martinsburg during the playoffs, continuing to show why he's one of the program's top underclassmen. We hadn't gotten any film from him until this season and are still waiting on Hudl highlights to be posted, but Konchesky is having an impressive senior season for the Hawks. He's leading the team in tackles with 133 stops before last week's win, and is playing some high level of football this season. Konchesky is a high effort player and flies to the football with great pursuit as an athletes who will cover every inch of the field.     University's 2026 DL [player_tooltip player_id='1673875' first='Ryder' last='Hastings'] has been a disruptive force for the Hawks in the playoffs, showing why he's such a tough matchup for opposing offensive lines. Despite being slightly undersized for a defensive tackle, Hastings uses strength, leverage, and relentless effort to control the interior line. He consistently beats blockers, closes quickly on the ball, and has made key stops in high-pressure situations, building on a season that already includes 87 tackles, 18 TFLs, and 6 sacks.     For the playoffs, 2027 University prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1154937' first='Kaleil' last='Lewis'] has continued to make an impact in multiple roles for the Hawks. He's contributed effectively on both sides of the ball and in special teams, showing the kind of versatility that makes him hard to game-plan against. Lewis has seen time at safety as well as EDGE/OLB this season, and his combination of size and athleticism gives him upside as a defensive prospect at the next level. Now fully established as the Hawks' starting quarterback, Helbig has demonstrated his ability to make plays in both the passing and running game. While there's still room to refine his mechanics, his natural talent and athleticism have been on display, and his performance in the postseason will be key to realizing his high ceiling as a top-tier prospect.     2027 University OL [player_tooltip player_id='1674336' first='Luke' last='Braham'] has showcased his growth and physical development, transitioning from his earlier receiver frame into a dominant presence on the line. He was particularly impressive in the first-round win over Parkersburg, demonstrating both strength and technique that highlight his potential as a high-level offensive lineman. As Braham continues to fill out his 6'6" frame, he's establishing himself as a prospect with a high ceiling, and D1 programs would be wise to monitor his continued progression.     Through the playoffs, 2027 University DB [player_tooltip player_id='1616215' first='Kyle' last='Weaver'] has continued to make an impact for the Hawks in the Nickel/OLB role, a spot that suits his skill set perfectly. He's shown excellent agility both laterally and vertically, allowing him to stay tight to the line of scrimmage while making plays in coverage.
