He broke onto the scene as a sophomore last season and opened eyes as a young player. We didn’t know what to expect from Ricketts as he was a quarterback in the past, but excelled as an OLB/S hybrid last year. He does a great job playing in space and is excellent in zone coverage at OLB. Ricketts can play head up in the slot as well and has great play recognition.

2027 Martinsburg DB Ty Ricketts Ty Ricketts 5'10" | 180 lbs | DB Martinsburg | 2027 State WV makes a big jump in the rankings after his first year with the Bulldogs. Ricketts earned a starting role for the state champions as a defensive back after previously being ranked as a quarterback and has a bright future at that position. He performed very well as a slot corner and has natural instincts at defensive back that should only continue to allow him to improve. Ricketts plays the ball well in coverage and when defending the run and does a nice job breaking down and space and attacking ball carriers.

Getting the ball to 2027 WR Phillip Shields Phillip Shields 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB Washington | 2027 State WV last season was quarterback Ty Ricketts Ty Ricketts 5'10" | 180 lbs | DB Martinsburg | 2027 State WV who is now with the state champion Martinsburg Bulldogs program. He’ll need to keep getting bigger to raise his ceiling as a prospect, but Ricketts flashed some very good arm talent as a freshman on the Musselman JV team. He throws a pretty ball and has nice touch on his passes that makes it easy for his receivers to make a play. Ricketts has shown he can hit on corner, post, and go balls accurately and on time which is great to see for a young QB. He was another participant at our Combine in May and one of many talented 2027 prospects we got to see in person who now rank among the best in the class at this stage.

It’ll be interesting and fun to watch him compete for the starting varsity job down the road with fellow highly-ranked 2027 QB/ATH Brian Dick Brian Dick 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH/QB Martinsburg | 2027 State WV as both prospects have shown great early potential.
